dosemu and WC Privateer

Hi,

I'd like to play Wing Commander Privateer after years again and tried dosemu 
as I don't have any MS DOS or MS Windows on my computer.
I set up dosemu and installed a MS DOS distribution inside. I even can boot 
the DOS but can not use emm386.exe. I found out that I should use dosemu's 
ems.sys - indeed I have XMS and EMS memory available. But when trying to 
start priv.exe I only get the following message:
Protected mode driver is not responding to EMS function calls.
Make sure your EMS driver is not configured with the NOEMS option.
If it is, replace the option "NOEMS" with "RAM".

I only found this

So how can I make it work?
