dosemu keyboard problem

I compiled the dosemu-1.1.4 and its O.K. But when I start it in console 
it can`t grab the left "ALT" key wich is bad for my users (some of the 
programs that we run require it-parasox end for changing keyboard layout 
to cyrillic).I try it on Mandrake 9.0 & Redhat 8.0 - it is the same.
But in older distributions it works fine and grabs the key(left alt). In 
a "X box" it works also fine and there is no problems with the key.
Please help!

You are probably trying to use rawkeyboard.  A global.conf in 1.1.4.0 problem 
prevents this from working at all.  You need a newer version.  I suggest 
1.1.4.13 (http://dosemu.sourceforge.net/testing/patch-1.1.4.13.gz).

DOSEMU keyboard problem

I fixed the performance issue - there was a leftover .dosemurc in users 
home directories, which included the '$_cpu_emu = "full"'.

But I now have a new problem regarding keyboard. I'm using Netterm 
telnet client, because it has excelent custom keyboard and character 
mapping abilities and it supports pass-through printing. I need mapping 
because the application is using an old, outdated and non-standard 
YUSCII encoding (check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YUSCII for more info).

On new DOSEMU there is a problem - when I press one of the 'home', 
'end', 'page up', 'page down' or 'insert' keys, DOSEMU seems to 'hang' - 
but not completely. It still accepts CTRL-C and 'space' - but nothing 
else. This only happens if I use Netterm in conjunction with new DOSEMU. 
It works if I use Putty and it also works with  Netterm and old DOSEMU 
(where the connection settings are exactly the same).

I used 'showkey' to check what Netterm actually sends for those keys::

HOME - ^[[1~
END - ^[[4~
PAGE UP - ^[[5~
PAGE DOWN - ^[[6~
INSERT - ^[[2~

These codes are the same that Putty sends and these keys work both in 
Linux (old and new server) and old DOSEMU...

I tried changing '$_layout', but that didn't change anything.

Any ideas?

I found out how I can 'escape' from that state - if I press 'ESC' 
quickly followed by 'ENTER', DOSEMU snaps out and I can continue using 
it... In keyscan codes, that's ^[^M ...

But still - how can I get these keys to work in DOSEMU?

DOSEMU depends on the TERM environment variable setting to get these
keys -- $_layout tends to not change these keys a lot as most
keyboards have home/end etc in the same place. Try (in Linux)
infocmp
and playing a bit with TERM
Perhaps
export TERM=putty
does the job?

Yes, I had to change TERM from the default Netterm's 'VT100'to 
'xterm-color' for everything to work. Using 'linux', 'putty' or 'xterm' 
fixed the keyboard problem, but some graphical characters did not 
display correctly.

With 'xterm-color' everything looks as it should.
