It's been ages since I've even seen them, but I seem to recall that the Norton Utilities did "fancy" things with screen handling, like reprogram some of characters in the font (or something similar to that) to have rounded corners and other stuff. If you're trying to run this on a linux console, you may need to set direct console and/or graphics modes.
