See about a $_printer_timeout option
in dosemu.conf.

Hallo, does somebody have the same problem?
My mom prints a lot from DOSEMU and she is not comfortable with the
every-print-waiting.
What could be the reason of the problem? And can somebody help?
Peter

Did you put a
$_printer_timeout = (1)
in your $HOME/.dosemurc?
Otherwise it is a problem of your printer spooler. With CUPS I have a little
pause with printing the first time in the morning after starting CUPS and
DOSemu. After that it always prints immediatly the whole day long (if there
is enough paper ;-)).
Could it be that you configured your printer spooler starting with inetd. Then
it will take a pause every time you start printing. Start your printer
spooler as daemon.

Hi, Claudia.
Thank You for advice, I'll check it but this probably is not the issue.
I'm not sure whether CUPS starts from inetd, I presume not, but the
pause before printing is EXACTLY SAME everytime. About 4 secs. The
machine is powerfull enough (AthlonXP1900+) and starting the print
daemon surely dosen't take him so long. Mainly the second time and
later, when it should be already in cache. The start of OpenOffice.org
is faster ;o)
The printer timeout dosen't affect this problem, I checked this. I'll
try again however.
And it dosen't depend on machine nor printer! Maybe it depends on the
version of CUPS, cause I use Debian Woody everywhere.
What is really interesting: the pause appears ONLY if printing from
DOSEMU. Oter print jobs start immediately.
Thank You again.

I use Debian testing/unstable with cupsys-1.1.15-4.
With CUPS you should install a printer only printing in raw mode. Give the
printer a short name say "raw". But the printer name in /home/user/.dosemurc
with $_printer="raw". Try making the "raw" printer the default printer. CUPS
has made a file /etc/printcap.cups. Copy the file to /etc/printcap (without
cups). Now it should work.

Hello,
I use DOSEMU under Debian Woody, GNOME 1.4, Linux 2.6.1. I have
printers running by CUPS. When I print from inside DOSEMU, there is 4
secs pause before printing starts. The pause dosen't depend on CPU or
machine load, dosen't depend on the program (even copying file to lpt
under DOSEMU has the exactly pause), and I have verified it on three
computers, two of them with EPSON LX-300 and one with HPDJ320. When
printing from Linux, no such pause takes place.
What could it be?
I'm happy the DOSEMU runs and I don't complain -the pause is
something man can learn to live with. But question is still there. What
is going on?
Greet You
Peter
