Thank You for advice, I'll check it but this probably is not the issue. I'm not sure whether CUPS starts from inetd, I presume not, but the pause before printing is EXACTLY SAME everytime. About 4 secs. The machine is powerfull enough (AthlonXP1900+) and starting the print daemon surely dosen't take him so long. Mainly the second time and later, when it should be already in cache. The start of OpenOffice.org is faster ;o) The printer timeout dosen't affect this problem, I checked this. I'll try again however. And it dosen't depend on machine nor printer! Maybe it depends on the version of CUPS, cause I use Debian Woody everywhere. What is really interesting: the pause appears ONLY if printing from DOSEMU. Oter print jobs start immediately.
