This error message means that dosemu was
not able to find kernel.sys. If you installed
freedos properly and this still doesn't work,
then upgrade your dosemu from CVS. The error
message will then tell you where exactly it
expects to find kernel.sys, and you'll be able
to find out why it is not there.
