Subject: Accessing xdosemu from non-root
Date: Tue, 25 Oct 2005 10:55:40 +0100	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <op.sy64i2zb6hj6fq@vwathome> (raw)

Is it possible to run Xdosemu from non-root using Dosemu 1.3.2?

At present I can only run it from root (although logged on as an user). I
have to open Konsole, then su and then enter my admnistrator password. If
I try to run xdosemu from user I get the following error message: "bash:
xdosemu: command not found".

One cosequence of running in root is that files created within programs
run under Dosemu are read only when opened in programs under
Linux/Windows. Is this a sympton of running Xdosemu under root?

They way I installed Dosemu 1.3.2 is at the end of this email in case
there is anything wrong with my installation method.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Victor Warner

Installation method (after removing previous instances of Dosemu, and
having an folder with MSDOS installed):

1 At console, cd /home/victor/various. Do not need to be at root.
2 tar zfvx dosemu-1.3.2.tgz
3 cd dosemu-1.3.2
4 ./configure
5 make
6 Change to root, e.g. su then enter password for root
7 make install
8 then cd /home/victor/dos
9 ln -s /usr/local/dosemu/freedos/dosemu dosemu or ln -s
/usr/local/share/dosemu/freedos/dosemu dosemu
10. Open Konsole, su, then xdosemu
