There is no scope for confusion; it is all very simple:

k == 1,000                (one thousand)
M == 1,000,000            (one million)
G == 1,000,000,000        (one milliard)
T == 1,000,000,000,000    (one en_GB billion)

Ki == 1,024               (2^10)
Mi == 1,048,576           (2^20)
Gi == 1,073,741,824       (2^30)
Ti == 1,099,511,627,776   (2^40)
