How difficult would it be for a relatively kernel-newby to add
mount -o loop -t jffs2 /var/tmp/somefile.jffs2 /mnt/jffs2
support?
Or is this all nonsense? And if it is: how can I get something OUT of
a JFF2-image?

On your workstation:
modprobe mtdram totalsize=$TOTALSIZE erasesize=$ERASESIZE
dd if=somefile.jffs2 of=/dev/mtd0
mount -t jffs2 /dev/mtdblock0 /mnt/jffs2
