Is there any firmware required on the DoC2001 to make it perform its 8 x bootblock
memory magic? .. or is it all done in glue logic?

If the answer to that is an overwhelmingly loud "Well DUH .. of course it requires firmware
to do its bootblock magic", then Q2 is;

  Isn't that firmware going to be blown away whenever I go to write over the first 1024
bytes .? .. ie .. "doc_loadbios", and the "erase /dev/mtd0 0 128" are both wiping out 8k
of DoC from its origin ...

Thanks in advance ...

No, it's in glue logic tied initially to DoC reset pin. I'm 99.99% certain
about that. If anyone says otherwise I'd be VERY surprised. My sources
M-Systems docs & mtd code.

Actually .. as much as I thought that would make me feel better ... it makes
me suspect the hardware ... I'll have to order another one in the morning ..
something simple and stupid is causing me a lot of extra heartache ... I'm
left with very little to check ...

Note that writing new stuff into the flash doesn't automatically update the
IPL RAM. You need to power cycle the device before your new code actually
appears in the RAM - resetting the host board doesn't necessarily work.

Yep - that's cool. That was in the AppNote Ollie referred me to (and I think it mentions
that somewhere on their utils disk ... or the notes that go with it).
