Yes.

No.  The "--enable-diskonchip-biosnetboot" applies only to the DoC GRUB.  If 
you have a BIOS that supports "NETWORK" boot, then you *can* boot from a 
harddisk with a GRUB-bootable DoC installed.

By saying above ,do you mean "hot plug" ?

Sorry I am not familiar with GRUB .I just do something after the readme . 
So, I cannot understand what's the meanig completely .
Do you mean that I can install a grub on my harddisk with "network " option ,then install DOC ,then I can boot from harddisk with DOC in my board ?

And do you mean you have to have 
- DOS (why shouldn't I use Linux?)
- An Empty DOC 
??

IF your board does support that. Mine does not. That's why the whole
fun started. That, and the inability of grub to access my filesystem.

You don't *have* to use DOS, it just might be slightly easier to run DFORMAT 
to erase GRUB and return the DoC to its "virgin" state.  

If you used Linux, you would need to have all of the proper MTD stuff 
compiled as modules, and do your "insmod" or "modprobe" *after* hot-plugging 
the DoC.  You would also need to use "eraseall" to wipe out GRUB, and I 
didn't recommend that option because of the possibility of wiping out the bad 
block table.

To clarify, "an empty DoC board" simply means inserting the ISA or PCI eval 
board, without installing the DoC.  Obviously, this would allow you to boot 
without the DoC GRUB taking over, and then you could "hot-plug" the DoC to 
erase it.

Keep in mind that these instructions assume a PC and a M-Sys eval-board.  If 
your system is different, please post the specifics.

For what it's worth, my development PC has an ISA eval-board, and the ability 
to "network" boot.  My target system has a *socketed* DoC, with no monitor or 
keyboard.  I make sure the DoC is bootable (from (dc0,0) with root file 
system on /dev/nftla1) prior to installing it on my target.

What version of GRUB did you use, prior to applying the patch?  I'm still 
curious as to why it doesn't recognize your root filesystem.  Are you running 
GRUB on your hard drive?

Ah, ok. I understand. My DoC is on the mainboard. I'm not even sure
if its socketed or soldered in, haven't checked. The machine is an
IGEL-Terminal, 233Mhz, 32MB Ram, 16MB DoC 2000, Cyrix Media GX. 
An older one. I think Its an IGEL-C. From http://www.igel.de
Originally came with linux 2.0.36, libc5 and M-Systems binary-only
driver, no ssh. So I had to fix that ;)) As it turned out, 2.4.18
was the first kernel able to handle the nasty DMA-bug of the 
Media GX chipset..

No. On the Harddisk is lilo. Grub was 0.93 or something. the newest 
from cvs plus the newest MTD-patches, plus the Debian-diff, all 
neatly patched in, with the rejects ironed out. Compiled with all
the debian-options plus the docchip-2000 option.

I have put a grub_firmware on my doc2000. It can drop me grub console mode but it cannot find any filesystem ,even filesystem on my harddisk. I have tried to use root(dc0,0) ,root(hd0,0),root(hd0,1)etc ,but it had no effect.It find nothing yet.

Then I face a serious situation.----How can I save my DOC ?
How can I clean the bad grub off my doc?
Before I put grub_firmware onto my DOC, I can boot from my harddisk ,floppy with DOC in place.However, after that , with DOC in place ,I even cannot boot from my floppy . It always give me grub boot .
If I  pull out it from my board , the system boot from my hard disk or floppy as usually.

Is there any way to clean the bad grubfirmware ? 
Does it mean it is waste now for me ? 
Help is urgently needed ! please give your hand  .

I even tried to load a kernel by giving grub the blocks to boot it
from, but no success so far. It can read the partition-table, but
not the filesystem.

Ok. I havent tried booting from floppy so far, but this tells me
I don't even have to try.
