Good evening,

What is the status of XIP for userspace programs? Is anyone working on
this for a recent kernel? A quick grep through the mailing list archive
seems to indicate that

1. The consensus is that it's better to have compression than XIP.
2. XIP work for userspace programs has never progressed to the point of
being able to actually run programs.

Does this seem correct?

Thanks in advance,

There are hacks which give you XIP as long as you never write to the flash
chip. Doing XIP properly requires some work, and the rmap VM. Doing a
writable XIP file system requires even more work.
