Has anybody succeeded in compiling a kernel with the MTD drivers
in it (not as modules) to run with the DiskOnChip 2000?

I would appreciate if someone would be able to send me such a
kernel either to dviro@ibm.net, or perhaps put it in some FTP.

Thanks in advance.

I have not been successful compiling mine into the kernel either.
If you have any luck, let me know.

I haven't managed to get the latest kernel to work, but I've got a 2.0.38
to go - any use?

I have managed to compile the MTD driver into a 2.2.14 kernel (mtd.c,
doc2000.c & nftl.c) and am now starting to test it out. My collegue
(Brendan Knox) did this a while ago but found some problems with the
driver. He's now on a sabbatical so the job falls to me. The more heads
we can get round this one the better, so if I can be of any help getting
you guys going let me know.

Cheers

Trevor Woolven.

It would be extremely helpful if you could post a patch with
whatever you changed in the kernel, plust whatever you changed in
the MTD sources (if at all).

Thanks.

If you could please post a patch with whatever you added to the
kernel, and whatever you changed in the MTD files (if at all), it
could be extremely helpful.

Thanks!

OK - I'm using an Advantech board, so 486-based with a DOC2000.
What I did:
	cd /usr/src
	mv linux linux.orig
	tar Ixvf ~/minimpg/linux-2.0.38.tar.bz2
	cd linux
	unzip ~/minimpg/doclinux_2_0_x_1_21.zip
	tar zxvf driver.tgz
	cat tmp/doc-driver/doc-patch-2.0.35 | patch -p0
	cp usr/src/linux/drivers/block/flash_doc/* drivers/block/flash_doc/
	# Ensure "M-Systems DiskOnChip" is selected :-)
	# IE CONFIG_BLK_DEV_GENERIC_FLASH_DOC=y
	cd drivers/block/flash_doc
	CC=/usr/bin/gcc272 make
	cd ../../..
	vim Makefile
	# Alter line: CC=$(CROSS_COMPILE)gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I$(HPATH)
	# To CC=$(CROSS_COMPILE)gcc272 -D__KERNEL__ -I$(HPATH)
	make zImage
	cat arch/i386/kernel/zImage > /dev/fd0
	# Stand well back :-)

More or less my problems. Though I was able to compile the
drivers for 2.2.14, I can't seem to mount, or fdisk, or do anything. It
seems to me like the 2.3 initialization does not work under 2.2. I've
compared it to m-systems' code, and to a book I have, and it what
is written should work for modules, not for kernel drivers, which is
exactly what happens.

If anybody was able to fix this, I'll be glad to see what they did. I'll
work on it myself, when I have the time.
