Hi all,

I have 2 slackware linux servers (kernel 2.2.6), running on a lan with
a winNt4 Sp6 system, and 10 Windows XP clients. One linux is primary
DNS, web (apache), mail (sendmail), and ftp/telnet. The second linux is
for secondary DNS and backup only.

NT box is the pdc for the users and also runs MS SQL and coldfusion.

I am converting over to ADSL and my ISP has given me 4 IP addresses
only. One for each server and one for the router. The servers public
addresses are 61.95.1.221 - 61.95.1.223, and the router is 61.1.95.220.
The private addresses are 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.4, with the router
being 192.168.0.1 (the gateway for all clients). They say they have
correctly NAT'd the public to private addresses.

I'm running Bind 8 for the named/dns

I host 5 domains, and they share a single IP (ie they use named based
virtual hosting).

Problem is it don't work.

I set up the DNS files with the public addresses and redelegated the
domains. Couldn't get to web site from outside, but what's even worse,
none of the internal clients could receive email, display any of the
websites, but could send email and surf outbound.

So, question - what is the right way to do this? Where might I find
some detailed documentation on this set up?

ps. When I did get the DNS files set up, the primary dns server sent a
notify to the secondary, which then said it reeceived the notify from
itself, which is a non-master??? Say what?

Cheers

hi there.
my problem is that Gnome RPM (gnorpm) provides for a method by
which dependecy checks are done and required files are informed to
the user.
however it does not go one step futhur and ask the user whetehr he
wants to instal the dependecy or not.
someway i can accomplish this.
i'm goin crazy with the dependecies.

maybe ther is a command line alternative (an option with rpm
command) to help me install without hassle.

Please help
Anant

Hi all,
I am trying to write a program in c to be able to search a file
for any pattern which will be given by the user at
runtime.Basically a search tool.
Could someone suggest a good way of doing this.I've heard of lex
and yacc and also awk.Which one is better or is there any other
option.
Or is there any way i can use something like grep through a 'c'
program.
Thanks
mishra

In Slackware 9.1 I have a very annoying distorted sound which I am unable to
correct.

My RH9.0 and SW9.1 have the same kernel and the same settings in sound. Both
have the same /etc/module.conf.

SW lsmod gives:

What could be the reason for the distorted sound in SW and how could it be
corrected.

Thanks & regards

Upon the suggestion of Ray Olszewski I got the following from dropline forum:

Well, I can help with the xmms stuff... I was getting the exact same error
about a "invalid pointer" in some free() function in glibc.. although I didn't
have the permissions problem with /dev/ttyS1, whatever that means.

Anyway, I think Dropline 2.10 changes something in the glibc, and the
pre-packaged xmms dislikes it. So, no big deal: just download the source from
xmms.org and build it yourself, and it will work like a charm.

Hope it helps

The ttyS0 errors are probably related to some sort of XXMS plugin you are
using.

The Glibc error is probably due to the fact that the XXMS FLAC plugin no
longer will work without a rebuild. Slackware's FLAC is old, and not
compatible with what we include. XMMS is the only affected program. You can
optionally remove the FLAC plugin from /usr/lib/xmms/plugins (I believe that's
the right place).

Guess that's of interest for others on this list.

Hi all,
How I can disable printk() output bufferization ? I need that printk() prints symbol-by-symbol or line-by-line.

Thank you.

Check this out - since it has similar embedded requirements like yours
(what is a chematic engineer?):

http://tree.celinuxforum.org/pipermail/celinux-dev/2006-July/001261.html

Read the comments part of kernel/printk.c - printk() is an amazing
function, because it can be called in ANY CONTEXT.....which also means
that it cannot sleep. But since u know many I/O function involved
some form of waiting, therefore printk() necessarily HAVE TO WRITE TO
A BUFFER, and it only write to the screen/console whenever it is
allowed to sleep (which involved holding a console semaphore).

In short, printk() sometimes will output to screen directly, esp when
u are not in the interrupt context. Otherwise it may just buffer for
later delivery.

Hi all

To write multiple kernel version compatible programs, I need to know when a specific symbol (a struct or a function)were introduced in to the kernel tree

Binary search against multiple kernel sources is a way,but is still slow.Is there any fast way to use modern git technology to make my life easier?

Many thanks.

Best Regards

Subj: Cgroups: RT-Scheduler

Hi folks,
I'm working with cgroup now, and I can't understand RT mechanism's destination. What is the real case for RT scheduler in cgroup? In what cases should I restrict RT-threads? As far as I understand, a RT-thread has highest priority in system, and what the reason to give ability to make TS-thread higher priority? If someone has such experience please share it.
