Added. The bug fix trees all get merged together, so it is no problem
for me to add more.

The master branch should include the for-stable branch 99.9% of the
time (for my own testing sanity), but if it's not too much trouble,
sure, that would be great. If it would cause you too much extra work
on your end, it might not be worth it; I'll leave it up to you.

Thanks!!

Added from tomorrow. Should I add the for-stable branch as well (as a
bug fixes tree)?

Thanks for adding your subsystem tree as a participant of linux-next. As
you may know, this is not a judgement of your code. The purpose of
linux-next is for integration testing and to lower the impact of
conflicts between subsystems in the next merge window.

You will need to ensure that the patches/commits in your tree/series have
been:
     * submitted under GPL v2 (or later) and include the Contributor's
        Signed-off-by,
     * posted to the relevant mailing list,
     * reviewed by you (or another maintainer of your subsystem tree),
     * successfully unit tested, and
     * destined for the current or next Linux merge window.

Basically, this should be just what you would send to Linus (or ask him
to fetch). It is allowed to be rebased if you deem it necessary.

Dave Airlie is still on vacation, so I expect drm fixes pull request to
get a bit delayed. I think adding a warning when sending each respective
pull to Linus about this is the best approach, to avoid stalling mdev
fixes.

* Please add fscrypt.git to linux-next
From: Theodore Ts'o @ 2017-01-04 4:44 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: Stephen Rothwell; +Cc: linux-next, linux-kernel

Could you please add:

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tytso/fscrypt.git master

To the linux-next tree? I was previously feeding fscrypt changes by
merging them into the ext4.git dev branch, but it will make life
simpler if we have a separate git tree for it.

Linus has already accepted a pull request from the for-stable branch
of fscrypt.git. I plan to send a separate pull request for the master
branch of fscrypt.git during the next merge window.

Thanks!!

* linux-next: Tree for Jan 4
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2017-01-04 3:36 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: linux-next; +Cc: linux-kernel

Hi all,

Changes since 20170103:

Dropped tree: rdma-leon (build error)

The swiotlb tree gained a build failure so I used the version from
next-20170103.

The rdma-leon tree gained a build failure so I dropped it again.

Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 1763
 2251 files changed, 65458 insertions(+), 28535 deletions(-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig (with
CONFIG_BUILD_DOCSRC=n) for x86_64, a multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a
native build of tools/perf. After the final fixups (if any), I do an
x86_64 modules_install followed by builds for x86_64 allnoconfig,
powerpc allnoconfig (32 and 64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig, allyesconfig
(with KALLSYMS_EXTRA_PASS=1) and pseries_le_defconfig and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

I am currently merging 246 trees (counting Linus' and 35 trees of bug
fix patches pending for the current merge release).

Stats about the size of the tree over time can be seen at
http://neuling.org/linux-next-size.html .

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds. And to Paul
Gortmaker for triage and bug fixes.

I got the same on my i386 allmodconfig build today ; unclear why sfr's
build didn't
barf on the same issue -- gcc version perhaps? Anyway, I posted a fix:

This needed to be fixed up in the merge commit

I have dropped the rdma-leon tree again for today.

Hi Konrad,

After merging the swiotlb tree, today's linux-next build (powerpc
ppc64_defconfig) failed like this:

net/bridge/br_input.o: In function `.swiotlb_max_segment':
(.text+0x780): multiple definition of `.swiotlb_max_segment'
net/bridge/br.o:br.c:(.text+0x3c0): first defined here

and many, many more :-(

Caused by commit

f196f1294fd2 ("swiotlb: Export swiotlb_max_segment to users")

Forgotten "static nline" in include/linux/swiotlb.h ...

I have used the swiotlb tree from next-20170103 for today.

* [PATCH] staging: rtl8188eu: fix incorrect ERROR tags from logs
From: Galo Navarro @ 2017-01-03 22:12 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: linux-next; +Cc: Greg Kroah-Hartman, Larry Finger

Several lifecycle events in the rtl8188eu driver are logged using the
DBG_88E_LEVEL macro from rtw_debug.h, which is tagged as ERROR
regardless of the actual level. Below are dmesg excerpts after loading
and unloading the module, the messages are misleading as there was no
error.

[517434.916239] usbcore: registered new interface driver r8188eu
    [517435.680653] R8188EU: ERROR indicate disassoc
    [517437.122606] R8188EU: ERROR assoc success
[517797.735611] usbcore: deregistering interface driver r8188eu
    [517797.736069] R8188EU: ERROR indicate disassoc

Remove the ERROR prefix from the logs. After the patch, logs are:

[517949.873976] usbcore: registered new interface driver r8188eu
    [517950.592845] R8188EU: indicate disassoc

Unless there's some preference otherwise, I was only asking if the i915
changes were queued for rc3 such that I could trail behind them and
fixup the mdev API change without relying on it getting caught in the
merge. If we're happy to do it at merge time, I won't worry about it.
Thanks,

Alex

Send what to me? I've pushed fixes to drm-intel-fixes today for testing,
and expect to send a pull request to Dave early Thursday. If there's a
conflict, it can usually be solved while merging, like Stephen has done.

Hi Stephen, while GVT-g is part of i915, it has its own mailing list and
maintainers, listed under "INTEL GVT-g DRIVERS (Intel GPU
Virtualization)" in MAINTAINERS. Please include them wrt linux-next
conflicts in drivers/gpu/drm/i915/gvt/. Added now.

Thanks,
Jani.

Thanks Stephen,
It is our fault.

I'm fixing it right now.

* linux-next: Tree for Jan 3
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2017-01-03 4:56 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: linux-next; +Cc: linux-kernel

Hi all,

Changes since 20161224:

Dropped tree: rdma-leon (complex conflicts)

The drm-intel-fixes tree gained a conflict against the vfio-fixes tree
and a build failure for which I applied a merge fix patch.

The mips tree gained a conflict against Linus' tree.

The rdma-leon tree gained conflicts against the net-next tree.

The drm-misc tree gained conflicts against the drm-intel tree.

Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 1439
 1902 files changed, 58757 insertions(+), 24837 deletions(-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig (with
CONFIG_BUILD_DOCSRC=n) for x86_64, a multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a
native build of tools/perf.

Hi Zhenyu,

Hopefully this abstraction will help to isolate vendor drivers from
mdev API changes in the future. I can certainly roll this patch into
the original to maintain bisectability. I want to get these changes in
for rc3, will a pull request for the i915 changes be sent this week?
Thanks for spotting and fixing this, Stephen. Thanks,

Alex

Hi Linus,

After merging the pinctrl tree, today's linux-next build (x86_64
allmodconfig) produced this warning:

drivers/pinctrl/pinctrl-amd.c: In function 'amd_gpio_dbg_show':
drivers/pinctrl/pinctrl-amd.c:210:3: warning: 'pin_num' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Wmaybe-uninitialized]
   for (; i < pin_num; i++) {
   ^
drivers/pinctrl/pinctrl-amd.c:172:21: warning: 'i' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Wmaybe-uninitialized]
  unsigned int bank, i, pin_num;
                     ^

Introduced by commit

3bfd44306c65 ("pinctrl: amd: Add support for additional GPIO")

This only happens because I merge both trees (I think) ...
