Thanks for the patch.

We could also stand to have this patch applied to linux-next since
it doesn't seem to be merged anywhere else yet: (for drivers/media/video)

Ah, sorry about that, some IT issues again (looks fine internally). If
you don't mind to change them again, I created two branches on github,
the first one for LPAE and the other for kmemleak:

git://github.com/cmarinas/linux.git for-next
git://github.com/cmarinas/linux.git kmemleak

Thanks.

Hi Stephen,

Since the kernel.org git tree is still not accessible, would you pull
from this tree instead of the old writeback.git?

-ENOCAFFEINE - I saw the git://git.kernel.org and thought "Oh good, Stephen is
back up and running on kernel.org again".

The spectacularly unhelpful behavior of git didn't help matters any.
If it had printed out "no such tree here" or similar rather than just
hanging up, I'd probably have gone back and re-read the mail...

Yeah, linux-next is not back on git.kernel.org yet. See the note at the

So I managed to bodger up my local linux-next tree, decided to start from
scratch. Had a good 'git pull' of Linus's tree from yesterday, so I did a 'git
clone -l' of that. Then:

[/usr/src/linux-next] git remote add linux-next git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
[/usr/src/linux-next] git fetch linux-next
fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly

Am I pointing something in the wrong place, or does git need to be kicked at
the kernel.org end? It's apparently tree-specific - pulling Linus's tree from
git.kernel.org works just fine.

Yeah, it didn't conflict, so there is a

obj-y += omap_phy_internal.o

line a bit further down.

Ugh yes, my bad. Ingo objected to inlining all those functions and I
then screwed up. There are no users of those two functions in my tree.

* linux-next: Tree for Oct 5
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2011-10-05 8:37 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: linux-next; +Cc: LKML

[-- Attachment #1: Type: text/plain, Size: 37450 bytes --]

Hi all,

The linux-next tree is now available from
git://github.com/sfrothwell/linux-next.git as a temporary measure while
the kernel.org servers are unavailable.

Changes since 20111004:

The arm-soc tree still has its build failure so I used the version from
next-20110930.

The devicetree tree gained a build failure so I used the version from
next-20111004.

The tip tree gained a build failure (interaction with the net tree) for
which I applied a patch.

The staging tree lost its build failure.

The moduleh tree lost its build failures and gained a conflict against
the mfd tree.

The akpm tree gained 2 build failures for which I apllied patches. I
also dropped several patches from the akpm tree that turned up elsewhere.

I applied a supplied patch to fix up a build failure in the net tree.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" as mentioned in the FAQ on the wiki
(see below).

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log files
in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built with
a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig for x86_64. After the
final fixups (if any), it is also built with powerpc allnoconfig (32 and
64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig and allyesconfig (minus
CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES - this fails its final link) and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig. These builds also have
CONFIG_ENABLE_WARN_DEPRECATED, CONFIG_ENABLE_MUST_CHECK and
CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO disabled when necessary.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

We are up to 200 trees (counting Linus' and 27 trees of patches pending
for Linus' tree), more are welcome (even if they are currently empty).
Thanks to those who have contributed, and to those who haven't, please do.

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds.

There is a wiki covering stuff to do with linux-next at
http://linux.f-seidel.de/linux-next/pmwiki/ . Thanks to Frank Seidel.

Hi all,

After merging the final tree, today's linux-next build (powerpc allyesconfig)
failed like this:

kernel/cgroup_task_counter.c: In function 'task_counter_create':
kernel/cgroup_task_counter.c:60:3: error: implicit declaration of function 'ERR_PTR' [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]

Caused by commit 7d8662e11b18 ("cgroups: add a task counter subsystem")
from the akpm tree.

Hi Paul,

Today's linux-next merge of the moduleh tree got a conflict in
drivers/mfd/twl6030-irq.c between commit 2b8af0825999 ("mfd: Fix twl6030
lockdep recursion warning on setting wake IRQs") from the mfd tree and
commit c86747746435 ("mfd: Add export.h for EXPORT_SYMBOL/THIS_MODULE as
required") from the moduleh tree.

Just context changes. I fixed it up (see below) and can carry the fix as
necessary.

Hi all,

After merging the tip tree, today's linux-next build (x86_64 allmodconfig)
failed like this:

net/rds/ib_rdma.c: In function 'rds_ib_reuse_fmr':
net/rds/ib_rdma.c:272:2: error: implicit declaration of function 'llist_del_first' [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]
net/rds/ib_rdma.c:272:6: warning: assignment makes pointer from integer without a cast [enabled by default]
net/rds/ib_rdma.c: In function 'rds_ib_flush_mr_pool':
net/rds/ib_rdma.c:671:4: error: implicit declaration of function 'llist_add_batch' [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]
cc1: some warnings being treated as errors

Caused by commit 1230db8e1543 ("llist: Make some llist functions inline")
interacting with commit 1bc144b62524 ("net, rds, Replace xlist in
net/rds/xlist.h with llist") from the net tree. The former commit
removes the declarations of llist_del_first() and llist_add_batch() with
no explanation (and probably by accident since the definitions still
exist).

I have added the following patch for today:

From: Stephen Rothwell <sfr@canb.auug.org.au>

Subject: [PATCH] llist: add back llist_add_batch and llist_del_first

Commit 1230db8e1543 ("llist: Make some llist functions inline") appears
to have deleted the definitions by accident.

Thanks Stephen.

Looks like a missing include of linux/of.h from that driver. I'll fix

Git will handle renames without issue (e.g. net-next renames
nearly all the drivers, and there are no issues there). I'm
not sure what you've got planned that makes you think this will keep
happening, but regardless, what you can do to help out is this:

If you create/rewrite some staging driver, check whether it
uses module_param and only that -- if so it needs moduleparam.h

Then check if it uses MODULE_* or module_* -- such as
MODULE_LICENSE and module_table or similar. If so you really
need to include module.h or else it will build fail in linux-next.
The module.h will give you moduleparam.h (and export.h in l-next).

Finally if it only uses EXPORT_SYMBOL and/or THIS_MODULE, it will
eventually need export.h -- but since your tree won't have that
file (yet) you can put a module.h include into that file, and give
me a heads up on it and I can "downgrade" the include to be just
for export.h later (via my post-merge queue of patches). By putting
the module.h in as a placeholder for the export.h, you manage to
avoid Stephen having to deal with it as a build failure.

Greg can't pull the module.h tree into staging permanently since
the streams have to be presented separately for the final permanent
merge upstream. But there is nothing stopping you from fetching
the module.h content, merging it into your sandbox and having it
present during your testing if you were so inclined.

Thanks for asking,
Paul.

I've dropped these, plus the usb dwc3 patch which I see Greg picked

* [net-next 1/1] bna: Multiple Definition and Interface Setup Fix

drivers/net/built-in.o: In function `bfa_ioc_ct2_poweron':
(.text+0xcdc90): multiple definition of `bfa_ioc_ct2_poweron'
drivers/scsi/built-in.o:(.text+0x17f9a0): first defined here

This patch renames bfa_ioc_ct2_poweron() to bfa_nw_ioc_ct2_poweron() to avoid
multiple definition with Brocade scsi driver. It also modifies asic specific
interface setup to allocate MSIX resources at power on in case of 1860 HW with
no asic block and warns if the asic gen is neither BFI_ASIC_GEN_CT nor
BFI_ASIC_GEN_CT2.

OK, I have switched to that from today. However, that site is also
inaccessible today :-(

I would prefer that you split the kmemleak patches out into a separate
tree or branch.
