I would think this should be EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL()... this seems like a
symbol with a very high likelihood to be abused in strange ways.

"arm-unknown-linux-gnueabi-gcc (GCC) 4.6.3, GNU ld (GNU Binutils) 2.22".

Anyone have any thoughts?

Meanwhile I'll add a workaround to the sparc makefiles, and
push that to Linus.  This way it will work no matter what
combination of tools someone has.

That's on me, new suspend/resume support for libsas.  Looks like I
need stubs for the CONFIG_PM=n case.  Revised patches coming up.

Thanks Dave, you are absolutely correct.  Stephen indicated some
toolchain updates were pending when I'd asked about mips but
it never crossed my mind again until now.

I went and looked, and last weeks build (which was OK) was using
the gcc-4.4.3 (+ whatever binutils) and the failure today is now on
gcc-4.6.3 (+ some newer binutils).

Yeah, we updated our sparc64 toolchain yesterday ... Tony says he will try
applying the patch(es) from the bugzilla.

Hi Stephen,

Yesterday's 3.3.0-rc7-next-20120313 gives me unpredictable freezes
on x86_64, on a ThinkPad T420s - I've not dared it on more machines.

Usually when booting up (sometimes just after Freeing unused kernel
memory, sometimes random places elsewhere), but occasionally it manages
to get as far as X; doesn't usually manage to complete suspend+resume.

3.3.0-rc6-nex-20120309 behaved similarly; the last I tried before
that was 3.3.0-rc5-next20120227, which was okay.

Bisection led me to "cpuidle: Add common time keeping and irq enabling",
(from the cpuidle-cons tree I think), and reverting that has so far
given me a working system (it's a success if I complete this mail).

Below is the patch I've used to revert it (for other people having
problems with recent linux-next to try); but it's not quite correct,
because you did a merge on conflicting trees there, and I didn't spend
time to unravel all that, just get a working x86 system - since I've
left out some of your merge (in arch/arm/kernel/Makefile and arch/arm/
mach-at91/cpuidle.c), this reversion probably breaks arm as is.

This bug(?)  has been seen to float from one ARM build to another since
I started tracking the day-to-day changes in Stephen's linux-next builds.

I see it was discussed earlier:

but no concrete cause was nailed down.  Can the linux-next build results
help shed some light on this in any way?  Since it seems sporadic, is
there value in embedding a diagnostic of some sort in the infrastructure
so that when the error is detected, that it prints out more detailed info?

I can provide links to failed linux-next builds, but at the moment, all they
really seem to have is the same repeated error message, like this one:

and I don't see that helping folks all that much....

Ben, What is this?  I don't want the eeh_dev pointer in struct device_node.  Up to
now we've avoided putting any reverse references into device_nodes.  For everything
else we use a reverse lookup, particularly for devices, to avoid growing the
device_node for each new type of lookup.

GFS2_FS selects DLM (if GFS2_FS_LOCKING_DLM, which is enabled).
GFS2_FS selects IP_SCTP if DLM_SCTP, which is not enabled and not
used anywhere else in the kernel tree AFAICT.
DLM just always selects IP_SCTP.

I just checked and the master branch on
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git is
8ca39b0 "Add linux-next specific files for 20120313" as I would expect it
to be and the top of the l2-mtd tree that was merged into that is
4331c79c6895 "mtd: do not use plain 0 as NULL".
