Hi Stephen,

I try to keep the tree completely non-rebasing, as people are actually
using it for development. But for-next is a bit special in this respect,
and if there is a branch that could potentially be considered for
ocasional rebasing, it's probably for-next one.

OTOH, what issues exactly are the extra merges causing for you please?

Ok, this is pretty odd. I'll look into what happened, it'll be resolved in
a couple minutes, so please start pulling for-next again.

Thanks,

* linux-next: Tree for Jul 13
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2016-07-13 6:47 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: linux-next; +Cc: linux-kernel

Hi all,

Changes since 20160712:

Dropped tree: hid (too many conflicts)

The hid tree gained quite a few conflicts due to a large revert, so I
dropped it for today.

The drm tree gained a conflict against the v4l-dvb tree.

The akpm-current tree gained a conflict against the block tree.

The akpm tree lost a patch that turned up elsewhere.

Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 8633
 8133 files changed, 459742 insertions(+), 154417 deletions(-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig (with
CONFIG_BUILD_DOCSRC=n) for x86_64, a multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a
native build of tools/perf. After the final fixups (if any), I do an
x86_64 modules_install followed by builds for x86_64 allnoconfig,
powerpc allnoconfig (32 and 64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig, allyesconfig
(this fails its final link) and pseries_le_defconfig and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

I am currently merging 238 trees (counting Linus' and 35 trees of patches
pending for Linus' tree).

Stats about the size of the tree over time can be seen at
http://neuling.org/linux-next-size.html .

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds. And to Paul
Gortmaker for triage and bug fixes.

* linux-next: manual merge of the akpm-current tree with the block tree
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2016-07-13 6:14 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: Andrew Morton, Jens Axboe
Cc: linux-next, linux-kernel, NeilBrown, Keith Busch

Hi Andrew,

Today's linux-next merge of the akpm-current tree got a conflict in:

  drivers/nvme/host/core.c

between commit:

  f80ec966c19b ("nvme: Limit command retries")

from the block tree and commit:

  8cc07e463b0c ("NVMe: don't allocate unused nvme_major")

from the akpm-current tree.

I fixed it up (see below) and can carry the fix as necessary. This
is now fixed as far as linux-next is concerned, but any non trivial
conflicts should be mentioned to your upstream maintainer when your tree
is submitted for merging. You may also want to consider cooperating
with the maintainer of the conflicting tree to minimise any particularly
complex conflicts.

What I forgot to say is that that last revert creates lots of conflicts
when I merge your tree:

CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c
CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in mm/shmem.c
CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in fs/dcache.c
CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in drivers/gpu/drm/amd/powerplay/inc/smu74_discrete.h

CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in arch/powerpc/Kconfig
CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in arch/arm/mach-omap2/omap-smp.c
CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in Makefile

So I have just dropped the hid tree until it is cleaned up.

Hi Jiri,

The hid tree
(git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jikos/hid.git#for-next)
seems to be based on v3.19 and constists of a large number of merges
(of stuff that is now in Linus' tree) and ends with one particulary
large revert (of a merge).

Please just rebase it onto (e.g.) v4.7-rc<something>).

The mm-of-the-moment snapshot 2016-07-12-15-56 has been uploaded to

   http://www.ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/

mmotm-readme.txt says

README for mm-of-the-moment:

http://www.ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/

This is a snapshot of my -mm patch queue. Uploaded at random hopefully
more than once a week.

You will need quilt to apply these patches to the latest Linus release (4.x
or 4.x-rcY). The series file is in broken-out.tar.gz and is duplicated in
http://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/series

The file broken-out.tar.gz contains two datestamp files: .DATE and
.DATE-yyyy-mm-dd-hh-mm-ss. Both contain the string yyyy-mm-dd-hh-mm-ss,
followed by the base kernel version against which this patch series is to
be applied.

This tree is partially included in linux-next. To see which patches are
included in linux-next, consult the `series' file. Only the patches
within the #NEXT_PATCHES_START/#NEXT_PATCHES_END markers are included in
linux-next.

A git tree which contains the memory management portion of this tree is
maintained at git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mhocko/mm.git
by Michal Hocko. It contains the patches which are between the
"#NEXT_PATCHES_START mm" and "#NEXT_PATCHES_END" markers, from the series
file, http://www.ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/series.

A full copy of the full kernel tree with the linux-next and mmotm patches
already applied is available through git within an hour of the mmotm
release. Individual mmotm releases are tagged. The master branch always
points to the latest release, so it's constantly rebasing.

http://git.cmpxchg.org/cgit.cgi/linux-mmotm.git/

To develop on top of mmotm git:

$ git remote add mmotm git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mhocko/mm.git
  $ git remote update mmotm
  $ git checkout -b topic mmotm/master
  <make changes, commit>
  $ git send-email mmotm/master.. [...]

To rebase a branch with older patches to a new mmotm release:

  $ git remote update mmotm
  $ git rebase --onto mmotm/master <topic base> topic

The directory http://www.ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmots/ (mm-of-the-second)
contains daily snapshots of the -mm tree. It is updated more frequently
than mmotm, and is untested.

A git copy of this tree is available at

	http://git.cmpxchg.org/cgit.cgi/linux-mmots.git/

and use of this tree is similar to
http://git.cmpxchg.org/cgit.cgi/linux-mmotm.git/, described above.

* linux-next: Tree for Jul 12
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2016-07-12 6:26 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: linux-next; +Cc: linux-kernel

Hi all,

Changes since 20160711:

The tegra tree gained a conflict against the samsung-krzk tree.

The pm tree lost its build failure.

The xen-tip tree gained a conflict against the pm tree.

Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 8344
 7965 files changed, 454225 insertions(+), 152122 deletions(-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig (with
CONFIG_BUILD_DOCSRC=n) for x86_64, a multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a
native build of tools/perf.

Stephen Rothwell

* linux-next: manual merge of the xen-tip tree with the pm tree
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2016-07-12 4:09 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Jeremy Fitzhardinge, Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk, Stefano Stabellini,
	Xen Devel, Rafael J. Wysocki
Cc: linux-next, linux-kernel, Octavian Purdila, Shannon Zhao

Hi all,

Today's linux-next merge of the xen-tip tree got a conflict in:

  drivers/acpi/scan.c

between commit:

68bdb6773289 ("ACPI: add support for ACPI reconfiguration notifiers")

from the pm tree and commit:

c8ac8b6fb495 ("Xen: ACPI: Hide UART used by Xen")

from the xen-tip tree.

Cheers,
Stephen Rothwell

Hi all,

Today's linux-next merge of the tegra tree got a conflict in:

  arch/arm64/configs/defconfig

between commit:

426f754be0bc ("arm64: defconfig: Enable more IP blocks for Exynos7 and Exynos5433")

from the samsung-krzk tree and commit:

  10a7b37b5b96 ("arm64: Update default configuration")

from the tegra tree.

I fixed it up (see below) and can carry the fix as necessary. This
is now fixed as far as linux-next is concerned, but any non trivial
conflicts should be mentioned to your upstream maintainer when your tree
is submitted for merging. You may also want to consider cooperating

Looks like the below should be squashed into commit:

4585082afab4 regulator: pwm: Support extra continuous mode cases

Can you confirm?

Okay, so this is something that needs to be fixed up in one of Boris'
patches? Can you help point out where exactly? The conflict should be
gone as of tomorrow's linux-next.

* [PATCH -next] pnp: pnpbios: add header file to fix build errors

Fix build errors due to missing header file:

due to 90f777beb788 (arm64: Fix vdso-offsets.h dependency) when built
from a completely clean tree (eg, after make distconfig). Building from
a non-clean environment does work, as does reverting that commit. The
dependencies required to ensure that the header gets generated before
it's used aren't present so make doesn't figure out the ordering
correctly.

I already submitted it, but since it was part of the __ro_after_init
work which was cross-architecture, it seemed best to carry it
separately. I'm happy to do whatever you'd like.

This was what I was worried about and why I originally sent my patch
based upon Boris's series. The above should be:

ramp_delay = DIV_ROUND_UP(abs(req_min_uV - old_uV), ramp_delay);

Specifically note the use of "req_min_uV" and not "min_uV".

* linux-next: Tree for Jul 11
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2016-07-11 8:55 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: linux-next; +Cc: linux-kernel

Hi all,

Changes since 20160708:

The arm64 tree gained a conflict against Linus' tree.

The pm tree gained a build failure so I used the version from
next-20160708.

The wireless-drivers-next tree gained a conflict against the net-next
tree.

The drm tree gained a conflict against the jc_docs tree.

The drm-msm tree gained a build failure for which I applied a merge
fix patch.

The block tree gained a conflict against the f2fs tree.

The tip tree gained a conflict against the kspp tree.

The kvm-ppc-paulus tree gained a conflict against the fsl tree.

The pwm tree gained conflicts against the regulator tree.

The nvdimm tree gained a conflict against the block tree.

Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 8195
 7885 files changed, 445880 insertions(+), 150928 deletions(-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig (with
CONFIG_BUILD_DOCSRC=n) for x86_64, a multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a
native build of tools/perf.
