* linux-next: manual merge of the scsi-mkp tree with the block tree

Hi all,
Today's linux-next merge of the scsi-mkp tree got a conflict in:
drivers/scsi/sd.c
between commit:
81d926e8b552 ("sd: split sd_setup_discard_cmnd")
from the block tree and commit:
7529fbb0080d ("scsi: sd: Fix function descriptions")
from the scsi-mkp tree.
I fixed it up (I just used the former version) and can carry the fix as
necessary. This is now fixed as far as linux-next is concerned, but any
non trivial conflicts should be mentioned to your upstream maintainer
when your tree is submitted for merging. You may also want to consider
cooperating with the maintainer of the conflicting tree to minimise any
particularly complex conflicts.

* linux-next: Tree for Apr 26
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2017-04-26 8:03 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Linux-Next Mailing List; +Cc: Linux Kernel Mailing List
Hi all,
Changes since 20170424:
The net-next tree gained a conflict against the kbuild tree.
The tip tree lost its build failure and gained a conflict against the
powerpc tree.
The scsi-mkp tree gained a conflict against the block tree.
The nvdimm tree lost its build failure.
Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 11536
10670 files changed, 1193532 insertions(+), 219524 deletions(-)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.
You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig (with
CONFIG_BUILD_DOCSRC=n) for x86_64, a multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a
native build of tools/perf. After the final fixups (if any), I do an
x86_64 modules_install followed by builds for x86_64 allnoconfig,
powerpc allnoconfig (32 and 64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig, allyesconfig
and pseries_le_defconfig and i386, sparc and sparc64 defconfig.
Below is a summary of the state of the merge.
I am currently merging 258 trees (counting Linus' and 37 trees of bug
fix patches pending for the current merge release).
Stats about the size of the tree over time can be seen at
http://neuling.org/linux-next-size.html .
Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.
Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds. And to Paul
Gortmaker for triage and bug fixes.

Cheers,
Stephen Rothwell

when CONFIG_PROC_FS is not enabled:
../net/can/bcm.c:1541:14: error: 'struct netns_can' has no member named 'bcmproc_dir'
../net/can/bcm.c:1601:14: error: 'struct netns_can' has no member named 'bcmproc_dir'

../net/can/bcm.c:1707:15: error: 'struct netns_can' has no member named 'bcmproc_dir'
2 of those are "protected" by
if (IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_PROC_FS)) {
but that doesn't seem to help/work here.

* [PATCH v2] arm: bitops: Align prototypes to generic API
From: Mason @ 2017-04-26 22:34 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Russell King - ARM Linux
Cc: Vinod Koul, Stephen Rothwell, linux-next, LKML, Linux ARM,
arm-soc, Emilio Lopez, dmaengine, Dan Williams, Maxime Ripard,
Chen-Yu Tsai
In-Reply-To: <20170424042033.GC6263@localhost>
From: Marc Gonzalez <marc_gonzalez@sigmadesigns.com>
include/asm-generic/bitops/find.h declares:
extern unsigned long
find_first_zero_bit(const unsigned long *addr, unsigned long size);
while arch/arm/include/asm/bitops.h declares:
#define find_first_zero_bit(p,sz) _find_first_zero_bit_le(p,sz)
extern int _find_first_zero_bit_le(const void * p, unsigned size);
Align the arm prototypes to the generic API, to have gcc report
inadequate arguments, such as pointer to u32.
Signed-off-by: Marc Gonzalez <marc_gonzalez@sigmadesigns.com>

The patch fixing drivers/dma/sun4i-dma.c
("dmaengine: sun4i: fix invalid argument")
has landed on linux-next (thanks Vinod)

The mm-of-the-moment snapshot 2017-04-26-16-39 has been uploaded to
http://www.ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/
mmotm-readme.txt says
README for mm-of-the-moment:
http://www.ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/
This is a snapshot of my -mm patch queue. Uploaded at random hopefully
more than once a week.
You will need quilt to apply these patches to the latest Linus release (4.x
or 4.x-rcY). The series file is in broken-out.tar.gz and is duplicated in
http://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/series
The file broken-out.tar.gz contains two datestamp files: .DATE and
.DATE-yyyy-mm-dd-hh-mm-ss. Both contain the string yyyy-mm-dd-hh-mm-ss,
followed by the base kernel version against which this patch series is to
be applied.
This tree is partially included in linux-next. To see which patches are
included in linux-next, consult the `series' file. Only the patches
within the #NEXT_PATCHES_START/#NEXT_PATCHES_END markers are included in
linux-next.
A git tree which contains the memory management portion of this tree is
maintained at git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mhocko/mm.git
by Michal Hocko. It contains the patches which are between the
"#NEXT_PATCHES_START mm" and "#NEXT_PATCHES_END" markers, from the series
file, http://www.ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/series.
A full copy of the full kernel tree with the linux-next and mmotm patches
already applied is available through git within an hour of the mmotm
release. Individual mmotm releases are tagged. The master branch always
points to the latest release, so it's constantly rebasing.
http://git.cmpxchg.org/cgit.cgi/linux-mmotm.git/
To develop on top of mmotm git:
$ git remote add mmotm git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mhocko/mm.git
$ git remote update mmotm
$ git checkout -b topic mmotm/master
<make changes, commit>
$ git send-email mmotm/master.. [...]
To rebase a branch with older patches to a new mmotm release:
$ git remote update mmotm
$ git rebase --onto mmotm/master <topic base> topic
The directory http://www.ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmots/ (mm-of-the-second)
contains daily snapshots of the -mm tree. It is updated more frequently
than mmotm, and is untested.
A git copy of this tree is available at
http://git.cmpxchg.org/cgit.cgi/linux-mmots.git/
and use of this tree is similar to
http://git.cmpxchg.org/cgit.cgi/linux-mmotm.git/, described above.
This mmotm tree contains the following patches against 4.11-rc8:

* linux-next: manual merge of the crypto tree with the s390 tree
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2017-04-27 0:50 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Herbert Xu, Martin Schwidefsky, Heiko Carstens
Cc: Linux-Next Mailing List, Linux Kernel Mailing List,

Hi Herbert,
Today's linux-next merge of the crypto tree got conflicts in:
drivers/char/hw_random/Makefile
drivers/char/hw_random/Kconfig
between commit:
bbcb478e3fef ("s390/trng: Introduce s390 TRNG device driver.")
from the s390 tree and commit:
7701d1ff8ed1 ("hwrng: mtk - Add driver for hardware random generator on MT7623 SoC")
from the crypto tree.
I fixed it up (see below) and can carry the fix as necessary. This
is now fixed as far as linux-next is concerned, but any non trivial
conflicts should be mentioned to your upstream maintainer when your tree
is submitted for merging. You may also want to consider cooperating
with the maintainer of the conflicting tree to minimise any particularly
complex conflicts.

Cheers,
Stephen Rothwell

* linux-next: build warning after merge of the sound-asoc tree

Hi all,
After merging the sound-asoc tree, today's linux-next build (x86_64
allmodconfig) produced this warning:
sound/soc/intel/skylake/bxt-sst.c: In function 'bxt_sst_dsp_init':
sound/soc/intel/skylake/bxt-sst.c:567:14: warning: 'skl' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Wmaybe-uninitialized]
dev_err(skl->dev, "%s: no device\n", __func__);
^
Introduced by commit
9fe9c7119283 ("ASoC: Intel: Skylake: Move sst common initialization to a helper function")
This looks like an actual bug ...

Yeah looks like that is the case, fortunately fix is quite simple, I will
send out soon
Thanks for reporting

* linux-next: manual merge of the kvms390 tree with the s390 tree

Hi all,
Today's linux-next merge of the kvms390 tree got a conflict in:
arch/s390/include/asm/cpacf.h
between commit:
985a9d20daa6 ("s390/crypto: Renaming PPNO to PRNO.")
from the s390 tree and commit:
152c1c8d60eb ("s390/cpacf: Introduce kma instruction")
from the kvms390 tree.

* linux-next: build failure after merge of the staging tree
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2017-04-27 4:20 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Greg KH, Johannes Berg
Cc: Linux-Next Mailing List, Linux Kernel Mailing List, Hans de Goede,

Hi Greg,
After merging the staging tree, today's linux-next build (x86_64
allmodconfig) failed like this:
drivers/staging/rtl8723bs/os_dep/ioctl_cfg80211.c: In function 'rtw_cfg80211_preinit_wiphy':
drivers/staging/rtl8723bs/os_dep/ioctl_cfg80211.c:3409:18: error: 'WIPHY_FLAG_SUPPORTS_SCHED_SCAN' undeclared (first use in this function)
wiphy->flags |= WIPHY_FLAG_SUPPORTS_SCHED_SCAN;
^
Caused by commit
554c0a3abf21 ("staging: Add rtl8723bs sdio wifi driver")
interacting with commit
ca986ad9bcd3 ("nl80211: allow multiple active scheduled scan requests")
from the mac80211-next tree.
I applied the below merge fix patch.
Also, I noticed that CONFIG_PNO_SUPPORT is checked for in several
files, but there is no such Kconfig option ...

* linux-next: Tree for Apr 27
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2017-04-27 6:39 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Linux-Next Mailing List; +Cc: Linux Kernel Mailing List
Hi all,
Changes since 20170426:
The crypto tree gained a conflict against the s390 tree.
The kvms390 tree gained a conflict against the s390 tree.
The staging tree gained a build failure due to an interaction with the
mac80211-next tree for which I applied a merge fix patch.
Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 11745
10774 files changed, 1200523 insertions(+), 221920 deletions(-)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.
You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig (with
CONFIG_BUILD_DOCSRC=n) for x86_64, a multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a
native build of tools/perf.

Correct fix, thanks. It should be ok again tomorrow as Martin has merged

Hi Rob,
After merging the devicetree tree, today's linux-next build (x86_64
allmodconfig) produced this warning:
drivers/of/unittest.c: In function 'of_unittest':
drivers/of/unittest.c:2199:25: warning: 'last_sibling' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Wmaybe-uninitialized]
last_sibling->sibling = overlay_base_root->child;

drivers/of/unittest.c:2122:22: note: 'last_sibling' was declared here
struct device_node *last_sibling;

* linux-next: build failure after merge of the kvm-ppc tree
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2017-04-28 4:31 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Paul Mackerras, Michael Ellerman, Benjamin Herrenschmidt, PowerPC
Cc: Linux-Next Mailing List, Linux Kernel Mailing List
Hi Paul,
After merging the kvm-ppc tree, today's linux-next build (powerpc
ppc64_defconfig) failed like this:
arch/powerpc/kvm/book3s_xive.c: In function 'xive_debugfs_init':
arch/powerpc/kvm/book3s_xive.c:1852:52: error: 'powerpc_debugfs_root' undeclared (first use in this function)
xive->dentry = debugfs_create_file(name, S_IRUGO, powerpc_debugfs_root,
^
Caused by commit
5af50993850a ("KVM: PPC: Book3S HV: Native usage of the XIVE interrupt controller")
interacting with commit
7644d5819cf8 ("powerpc: Create asm/debugfs.h and move powerpc_debugfs_root there")
from the powerpc tree.
I have added the following merge fix patch.

* linux-next: Tree for Apr 28
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2017-04-28 7:11 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: Linux-Next Mailing List; +Cc: Linux Kernel Mailing List
Hi all,
Changes since 20170427:
The kvm-ppc tree gained a build failure due to an interaction wuth the
powerpc tree for which I added a merge fix patch.
Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 11826
10826 files changed, 1207085 insertions(+), 223109 deletions(-)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.
You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig (with
CONFIG_BUILD_DOCSRC=n) for x86_64, a multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a
native build of tools/perf.

Hi,
This is the friendly patch-bot of Greg Kroah-Hartman. You have sent him
a patch that has triggered this response. He used to manually respond
to these common problems, but in order to save his sanity (he kept
writing the same thing over and over, yet to different people), I was
created. Hopefully you will not take offence and will fix the problem
in your patch and resubmit it so that it can be accepted into the Linux
kernel tree.
You are receiving this message because of the following common error(s)
as indicated below:
- Your patch did many different things all at once, making it difficult
to review. All Linux kernel patches need to only do one thing at a
time. If you need to do multiple things (such as clean up all coding
style issues in a file/driver), do it in a sequence of patches, each
one doing only one thing. This will make it easier to review the
patches to ensure that they are correct, and to help alleviate any
merge issues that larger patches can cause.
- You did not write a descriptive Subject: for the patch, allowing Greg,
and everyone else, to know what this patch is all about. Please read
the section entitled "The canonical patch format" in the kernel file,
Documentation/SubmittingPatches for what a proper Subject: line should
look like.
If you wish to discuss this problem further, or you have questions about
how to resolve this issue, please feel free to respond to this email and
Greg will reply once he has dug out from the pending patches received
from other developers.
thanks,
greg k-h's patch email bot
