* mmotm 2017-05-12-15-53 uploaded

The mm-of-the-moment snapshot 2017-05-12-15-53 has been uploaded to

   http://www.ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/

mmotm-readme.txt says

README for mm-of-the-moment:

http://www.ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/

This is a snapshot of my -mm patch queue. Uploaded at random hopefully
more than once a week.

You will need quilt to apply these patches to the latest Linus release (4.x
or 4.x-rcY). The series file is in broken-out.tar.gz and is duplicated in
http://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/series

The file broken-out.tar.gz contains two datestamp files: .DATE and
.DATE-yyyy-mm-dd-hh-mm-ss. Both contain the string yyyy-mm-dd-hh-mm-ss,
followed by the base kernel version against which this patch series is to
be applied.

This tree is partially included in linux-next. To see which patches are
included in linux-next, consult the `series' file. Only the patches
within the #NEXT_PATCHES_START/#NEXT_PATCHES_END markers are included in
linux-next.

A git tree which contains the memory management portion of this tree is
maintained at git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mhocko/mm.git
by Michal Hocko. It contains the patches which are between the
"#NEXT_PATCHES_START mm" and "#NEXT_PATCHES_END" markers, from the series
file, http://www.ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/series.

A full copy of the full kernel tree with the linux-next and mmotm patches
already applied is available through git within an hour of the mmotm
release. Individual mmotm releases are tagged. The master branch always
points to the latest release, so it's constantly rebasing.

http://git.cmpxchg.org/cgit.cgi/linux-mmotm.git/

To develop on top of mmotm git:

  $ git remote add mmotm git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mhocko/mm.git
  $ git remote update mmotm
  $ git checkout -b topic mmotm/master
  <make changes, commit>
  $ git send-email mmotm/master.. [...]

To rebase a branch with older patches to a new mmotm release:

  $ git remote update mmotm
  $ git rebase --onto mmotm/master <topic base> topic

The directory http://www.ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmots/ (mm-of-the-second)
contains daily snapshots of the -mm tree. It is updated more frequently
than mmotm, and is untested.

A git copy of this tree is available at

	http://git.cmpxchg.org/cgit.cgi/linux-mmots.git/

and use of this tree is similar to
http://git.cmpxchg.org/cgit.cgi/linux-mmotm.git/, described above.

Hi Andrew,

After merging the akpm-current tree, today's linux-next build (arm

* linux-next: Tree for May 15
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2017-05-15 2:58 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: Linux-Next Mailing List; +Cc: Linux Kernel Mailing List

Hi all,

Changes since 20170512:

Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 508
 569 files changed, 13787 insertions(+), 5574 deletions(-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig (with
CONFIG_BUILD_DOCSRC=n) for x86_64, a multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a
native build of tools/perf. After the final fixups (if any), I do an
x86_64 modules_install followed by builds for x86_64 allnoconfig,
powerpc allnoconfig (32 and 64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig, allyesconfig
and pseries_le_defconfig and i386, sparc and sparc64 defconfig.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

I am currently merging 258 trees (counting Linus' and 37 trees of bug
fix patches pending for the current merge release).

Stats about the size of the tree over time can be seen at
http://neuling.org/linux-next-size.html .

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds. And to Paul
Gortmaker for triage and bug fixes.

Stephen Rothwell

Hi Stephen/Andrew,

Sorry for the trouble.

The following patch will fix it, do you want to me to send it out separately? or help merge it into
fc7d2b44367f ("powerpc/fadump: use the correct VMCOREINFO_NOTE_SIZE for phdr") directly?

Thanks,

Andrew normally takes these as separate patches and then merges them
before sending them on.

* [PATCH] crash: Fix linux-next build warning
From: Xunlei Pang @ 2017-05-15 6:43 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: linux-next, akpm, Stephen Rothwell; +Cc: linux-kernel, Xunlei Pang

linux-next build (arm multi_v7_defconfig) produced this warning:

In file included from include/asm-generic/bug.h:15:0,

This patch fixes it with an explicit "size_t" type-casting on
VMCOREINFO_BYTES.

Andrew will help merge it into commit fc7d2b44367f ("powerpc/fadump:
use the correct VMCOREINFO_NOTE_SIZE for phdr") before sending it to
stable.

* linux-next: manual merge of the akpm tree with the imx-mxs tree
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2017-05-16 1:00 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: Andrew Morton, Shawn Guo
  Cc: Linux-Next Mailing List, Linux Kernel Mailing List, Arnd Bergmann,
	Randy Dunlap

Hi Andrew,

Today's linux-next merge of the akpm tree got a conflict in:

  drivers/soc/imx/Kconfig

between commit:

  e23c7f7d5783 ("soc: imx: add PM dependency for IMX7_PM_DOMAINS")

from the imx-mxs tree and patch:

  "imx7: fix Kconfig warning and build errors"

from the akpm tree.

I fixed it up (these both do the same thing, I just used the former) and
can carry the fix as necessary. This is now fixed as far as linux-next
is concerned, but any non trivial conflicts should be mentioned to your
upstream maintainer when your tree is submitted for merging. You may
also want to consider cooperating with the maintainer of the conflicting
tree to minimise any particularly complex conflicts.

* linux-next: Tree for May 16
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2017-05-16 1:21 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: Linux-Next Mailing List; +Cc: Linux Kernel Mailing List

Hi all,

Changes since 20170515:

The akpm tree lost a patch that turned up elsewhere.

Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 1064
 1008 files changed, 26929 insertions(+), 14343 deletions(-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig (with
CONFIG_BUILD_DOCSRC=n) for x86_64, a multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a
native build of tools/perf.

I am currently merging 259 trees (counting Linus' and 38 trees of bug
fix patches pending for the current merge release).

Stats about the size of the tree over time can be seen at
http://neuling.org/linux-next-size.html .

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds. And to Paul
Gortmaker for triage and bug fixes.

Automated bisect on an ARM build with the same issue reveals:

f6ba8d33cfbb46df569972e64dbb5bb7e929bfd9 is the first bad commit
commit f6ba8d33cfbb46df569972e64dbb5bb7e929bfd9

    netem: fix skb_orphan_partial()

    I should have known that lowering skb->truesize was dangerous :/

    In case packets are not leaving the host via a standard Ethernet device,
    but looped back to local sockets, bad things can happen, as reported
    by Michael Madsen ( https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195713 )

    So instead of tweaking skb->truesize, lets change skb->destructor
    and keep a reference on the owner socket via its sk_refcnt.

Hi Jeff,

After merging the file-locks tree, today's linux-next build (arm
multi_v7_defconfig) failed like this:

fs/fcntl.c: In function 'SYSC_fcntl64':
fs/fcntl.c:414:30: error: 'argp' undeclared (first use in this function)
   if (copy_from_user(&flock, argp, sizeof(flock)))

fs/fcntl.c:414:30: note: each undeclared identifier is reported only once for each function it appears in
fs/fcntl.c:416:23: error: 'filp' undeclared (first use in this function)
   err = fcntl_getlk64(filp, cmd, &flock);
                       ^

Caused by commit

  0416b792294c ("fs/locks: pass kernel struct flock to fcntl_getlk/setlk")

This build has BITS_PER_LONG == 32.

I have used the file-locks tree from next-20170516 for today.

I think this patch will probably fix it, but I don't have a 32-bit host
set up to build on just now. I'll go ahead and merge this into the
branch, and will plan to test it tomorrow (hopefully before the next
fetch).

Hi all,

After merging the netfilter tree, today's linux-next build (i386
defconfig) failed like this:

net/netfilter/x_tables.c: In function 'xt_match_to_user':
net/netfilter/x_tables.c:303:13: error: implicit declaration of function 'COMPAT_XT_ALIGN' [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]

In the !CONFIG_COMPAT case C_SIZE will always be zero, but the compiler
is still looking for the macro :-(

I added this cludge patch (I am sure it can be done better):
