Hurmph, I though that was cured in GCC >= 8. Marco?

Subject: [PATCH] Allow building hid.ko as an "external" module
For quickly testing USB HID quirks with a larger community, it is useful
to be able to build hid.ko as an external module, e.g., against the
source code of the running kernel.
Before this patch this failed as follows:
```
Do you mind sharing what’s your use cases with CONFIG_SLAB? The only thing prevents it from being purged early is that it might perform better with a certain type of networking workloads where syzbot should have nothing to gain from it.
I am more of thinking about the testing coverage that we could use for syzbot to test SLUB instead of SLAB. Also, I have no objection for syzbot to test SLAB, but then from my experience, you are probably on your own to debug further with those testing failures. Until you are able to figure out the buggy patch or patchset introduced the regression, I am afraid not many people would be able to spend much time on SLAB. The developers are pretty much already half-hearted on it by only fixing SLAB here and there without runtime testing it.
There is a reason, it's still important for us.
But also it's not our strategy to deal with bugs by not testing
configurations and closing eyes on bugs, right? If it's an official
config in the kernel, it needs to be tested. If SLAB is in the state
that we don't care about any bugs in it, then we need to drop it. It
will automatically remove it from all testing systems out there. Or at
least make it "depends on BROKEN" to slowly phase it out during
several releases.
Is there any particular reason to use CONFIG_SLAB rather than CONFIG_SLUB?
You are really asking for trouble to test something that almost nobody is exercising that code path very well nowadays.
Anyway, there is a patchset in -mm that might well introduce this regression that we could go to confirm it, but I kind of don’t want to spend too much time on SLAB that suppose to be obsolete eventually.
Hi all,
Changes since 20200621:
New tree: seccomp
My fixes tree contains:
466d58f824f1 ("device_cgroup: Fix RCU list debugging warning")
9bd7b7c45d71 ("sched: Fix RANDSTRUCT build fail")
The printk tree still had its build failure so I used the version from
next-20200618.
The hid tree still had its build failure so I used the version from
next-20200618.
The amdgpu tree still had its build failure so I used the version from
next-20200616.
The tip tree still had its build failure for which I applied a supplied
patch, but also gained another for which I reverted a commit.
The kspp tree lost its build failure.
I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.
You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc, an allmodconfig for x86_64, a
multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a native build of tools/perf. After
the final fixups (if any), I do an x86_64 modules_install followed by
builds for x86_64 allnoconfig, powerpc allnoconfig (32 and 64 bit),
ppc44x_defconfig, allyesconfig and pseries_le_defconfig and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig and htmldocs. And finally, a simple boot test
of the powerpc pseries_le_defconfig kernel in qemu (with and without
kvm enabled).
Below is a summary of the state of the merge.
I am currently merging 321 trees (counting Linus' and 82 trees of bug
fix patches pending for the current merge release).
Stats about the size of the tree over time can be seen at
http://neuling.org/linux-next-size.html .
Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.
Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds. And to Paul
Gortmaker for triage and bug fixes.
Cheers,
Stephen Rothwell
Hi all,
After merging the tip tree, today's linux-next build (x86_64 allmodconfig)
failed like this:
ERROR: modpost: "sched_setscheduler" [kernel/trace/ring_buffer_benchmark.ko] undefined!
Caused by commit
616d91b68cd5 ("sched: Remove sched_setscheduler*() EXPORTs")
Missed one :-)
I have reverted that commit for today.
I have added
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/kees/linux.git branch for-next/seccomp
from today.
Thanks for adding your subsystem tree as a participant of linux-next. As
you may know, this is not a judgement of your code. The purpose of
linux-next is for integration testing and to lower the impact of
conflicts between subsystems in the next merge window.
You will need to ensure that the patches/commits in your tree/series have
been:
* submitted under GPL v2 (or later) and include the Contributor's
Signed-off-by,
* posted to the relevant mailing list,
* reviewed by you (or another maintainer of your subsystem tree),
* successfully unit tested, and
* destined for the current or next Linux merge window.
Basically, this should be just what you would send to Linus (or ask him
to fetch). It is allowed to be rebased if you deem it necessary.
Ah, fixed, thank you!
Oh fun. Okay, that's the first use of sock_from_file() in core kernel
code. I will fix linux/net.h to include a NULL-returning static inline
for the CONFIG_NET=n case.
And I will add "allnoconfig" to my test workflow. :)
* linux-next: Tree for Jun 21
From: Stephen Rothwell @ 2020-06-21 15:23 UTC (permalink / raw)
[-- Attachment #1: Type: text/plain, Size: 33934 bytes --]
Hi all,
Changes since 20200618:
My fixes tree contains:
4cb4bfffe2c1 ("device_cgroup: Fix RCU list debugging warning")
Linus tree showed a build failure (because I started using gcc plugins)
for which I cherry-picked a commit from the tip tree.
The printk tree gained a build failure so I used the version from
next-20200618.
The amdgpu tree still had its build failure so I used the version from
next-20200616.
The tip tree gained a build failure so I used the version from
next-20200618.
The kspp tree gained a build failure so I reverted some commits.
The pidfd tree gained a conflict against the kspp tree.
The akpm-current tree gained a semantic conflict against the kspp tree
for which I reverted a commit.
Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 2201
2518 files changed, 271519 insertions(+), 34477 deletions(-)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.
You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc, an allmodconfig for x86_64, a
multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a native build of tools/perf. After
the final fixups (if any), I do an x86_64 modules_install followed by
builds for x86_64 allnoconfig, powerpc allnoconfig (32 and 64 bit),
ppc44x_defconfig, allyesconfig and pseries_le_defconfig and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig and htmldocs. And finally, a simple boot test
of the powerpc pseries_le_defconfig kernel in qemu (with and without
kvm enabled).
Below is a summary of the state of the merge.
I am currently merging 320 trees (counting Linus' and 82 trees of bug
fix patches pending for the current merge release).
Stats about the size of the tree over time can be seen at
http://neuling.org/linux-next-size.html .
Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.
Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds. And to Paul
Gortmaker for triage and bug fixes.
Hi all,
After merging the akpm-current tree, today's linux-next build (arm
multi_v7_defconfig) failed like this:
Caused by commit
a1e988dda7bb ("drivers/tty/serial/sh-sci.c: suppress uninitialized var warning")
interacting with commit
2d0e6f87039d ("compiler: Remove uninitialized_var() macro")
from the kspp tree.
I have just reverted that commit for today.
BTW, I don't see the warning that this patch is trying to fix ... (gcc 9)
Hi all,
After merging the kspp tree, today's linux-next build (x86_64 allnoconfig)
failed like this:
x86_64-linux-gnu-ld: fs/file.o: in function `__fd_install_received':
file.c:(.text+0x1010): undefined reference to `sock_from_file'
x86_64-linux-gnu-ld: file.c:(.text+0x104a): undefined reference to `sock_from_file'
Caused by commit
d3868eea5cbc ("fs: Move __scm_install_fd() to __fd_install_received()")
I reverted these commits for today (from the breaking commit to the end
of the branch):
b29bb87cbb0a selftests/seccomp: Test SECCOMP_IOCTL_NOTIF_ADDFD
af35c3c6a9a5 seccomp: Introduce addfd ioctl to seccomp user notifier
50ca89d3a4fb fs: Expand __fd_install_received() to accept fd
Hi all,
Today's linux-next merge of the pidfd tree got a conflict in:
fs/file.c
between commit:
d3868eea5cbc ("fs: Move __scm_install_fd() to __fd_install_received()")
from the kspp tree and commit:
60997c3d45d9 ("close_range: add CLOSE_RANGE_UNSHARE")
from the pidfd tree.
I fixed it up (see below) and can carry the fix as necessary. This
is now fixed as far as linux-next is concerned, but any non trivial
conflicts should be mentioned to your upstream maintainer when your tree
is submitted for merging. You may also want to consider cooperating
with the maintainer of the conflicting tree to minimise any particularly
complex conflicts.
Thanks, I saw that once but then got distracted to something of higher
prio. :-\
I'll apply this after testing it a bit:
---
From: Borislav Petkov <bp@suse.de>
Subject: [PATCH] x86/msr: Move the F15h MSRs where they belong
1068ed4547ad ("x86/msr: Lift AMD family 0x15 power-specific MSRs")
moved the three F15h power MSRs to the architectural list but that was
wrong as they belong in the family 0x15 list. That also caused:
In file included from trace/beauty/tracepoints/x86_msr.c:10:
perf/trace/beauty/generated/x86_arch_MSRs_array.c:292:45: error: initialized field overwritten [-Werror=override-init]
292 | [0xc0010280 - x86_AMD_V_KVM_MSRs_offset] = "F15H_PTSC",
| ^~~~~~~~~~~
perf/trace/beauty/generated/x86_arch_MSRs_array.c:292:45: note: (near initialization for 'x86_AMD_V_KVM_MSRs[640]')
due to MSR_F15H_PTSC ending up being defined twice. Move them where they
belong and drop the duplicate.
While at it, update the msr-index.h copy to pick up the changes from
7e5b3c267d25 ("x86/speculation: Add Special Register Buffer Data Sampling (SRBDS) mitigation")
Fixes: 1068ed4547ad ("x86/msr: Lift AMD family 0x15 power-specific MSRs")
