The 1510 only has USB 1 (though a USB 2 peripheral should work, just at
a slower speed). What kernel version are you using? There's a patch that
went into 2.6.16-omap2 that I believe is required for USB to work on the
1510 (it certainly is for the 5910).

You should see some indication in the kernel boot messages about whether
the USB is successfully working or not.
