Let's remove the #ifdefs here, we want to be able to compile support for
24xx and 34xx into the same kernel eventually. It's OK to have the same
DMA request channel defined in different way for 24xx and 34xx.

Regards,

Tony

One question here is will that happen practically? Maybe it will, not
sure. The same sentiments were made about OMAP1 vs. OMAP2. The
structure which results from the sharing intent perhaps is net positive
but I don't see them converging.

People would likely compiled 3430 for ARMv7 and ARMv6 for 24xx. Some
new instructions and the like are around. I don't that its fully
pluggable at the architecture level even.

EABI if really used might allow some fancy solutions in theory but I
wonder if those will develop. Not to say this the only way.

Regards,
Richard W.

Recent gcc allows mixing in assembly for later cores, so it's not a
problem. Sure you can optimize it for one core by not selecting anything
else.

It may take a while, but let's not add any new barriers to compile in
multiple cores.

Tony

Thanks, I've updated it for OMAP_DMA4_OCP_SYSCONFIG and will
apply today.

Oops, sorry it still has the ifdefs. Not applying it yet...

Hi Tony,

I'm sorry for the late reply. I have been on other things for a while and haven't re-looked at this patch yet. Will fix the ifdefs and re-send this patch.

@Kevin,
Thanks for the quickfix patch :)

Regards,
Anand

I've just started re-working this patch. Let me check if I have understood
you correctly. Do you want me to remove only the #ifdefs around the
OMAP34XX_DMA_SHA2MD5_RX/OMAP24XX_DMA_SHA1MD5_RX?

If this is the case, then wouldn't we run into trouble when we try to use a
request line with the same name but a different number - as is the case with
OMAP24XX_DMA_SHA1MD5_RX (13 on 24XX and 69 on 34XX)

Also when you say "we want to be able to compile support for 24xx and 34xx into
the same kernel...", do you mean there will be a CONFIG_ARCH_OMAP2 as well as a
CONFIG_ARCH_OMAP3 defined at the same time?

Yeah.

Then we should just define them as OMAP242X_DMA_ and OMAP34XX_DMA.

Yeah, that's already working for omap1. With -Wa gcc option we can
mix in assembly for ARMv7.

Regards,

Tony
