FWIW, I have a relatively recent mainline u-boot+SPL:
U-Boot SPL 2012.04.01 (Jul 03 2012 - 07:07:04)
U-Boot 2012.04.01 (Jul 03 2012 - 07:07:04)
And I see I2C error messages from u-boot too:
timed out in wait_for_pin: I2C_STAT=0
I2C read: I/O error
I think these are normal/expected since u-boot may be looking for
expansion cards.
