Do You mean CONFIG_STI_CONSOLE ? I have it, and CONFIG_SERIAL_CONSOLE
too.
Palo also sets console=tty0 .  Booting goes till "Switching from PDC
console"
and then welcome message from palinux cdrom appears on serial link.
