Has anyone successfully used perf within an ESX VM? dmesg shows a PMU is
discovered:

dmesg | grep -i performance
Performance Events: Nehalem/Corei7 events, Intel PMU driver.

yet data from it is nonsensical:

perf stat -v -- /tmp/a
