Yes I checked.  The latest available BIOS (1.45) is installed.  I have also re-flashed the BIOS after updating the CPU but this had no effect.

Sorry I have no idea what ACPI tables are.  I am just an end user of ubuntu looking for a solution.  I will google ACPI tables now you have mentioned it but I am on a steep learning curve here so all help is appreciated.
