And here's the ambiguity.

For the other sleep variants SYSTEM_SUSPEND means "all devices have
been suspended, interrupts are off and there's one CPU active".

Here, device suspend has not even completed entirely.

I guess you could set system_state to SYSTEM_SUSPEND right before
calling timekeeping_suspend() in tick_freeze() and then back to
SYSTEM_RUNNING after timekeeping_resume() has returned in
tick_unfreeze(), but talk to Thomas about that first. :-)

I quite don't like the first one for reasons explained in the reply to it.

The others are fine by me and I can queue them up if you want me to do that.

cpufreq would benefit from a static initializer which avoids an initcall
and bug fixing in case the warning (notifier used before initialized)

There are macros for static initializer for the three out of four
possible notifier types, that are:
	ATOMIC_NOTIFIER_HEAD()
	BLOCKING_NOTIFIER_HEAD()
	RAW_NOTIFIER_HEAD()

This patch provides a static initilizer for the forth type to make it
complete.

* [PATCH 2/2] cpufreq: Use static SRCU initializer

Use the static SRCU initializer for `cpufreq_transition_notifier_list'.
This avoids the init_cpufreq_transition_notifier_list() initcall. Its
only purpose is to initialize the SRCU notifier once during boot and set
another variable which is used as an indicator whether the init was
perfromed before cpufreq_register_notifier() was used.

You may be right!

What I was thinking of is whether multiple PM domains may be optional
in some cases, but instead a PM domain have already been attached by
dev_pm_domain_attach(), prior the driver starts to probe.

Then, assuming we return an error for this case, that means the caller
then need to check the dev->pm_domain pointer, prior calling
dev_pm_domain_attach_by_id(). Wouldn't it? Perhaps that is more clear
though?

I have already mentioned that I can't suggest since I don't have much
knowledge on QCOM PM. I see lots of patches flying around these days
with multiple people doing same things in different ways. That's why I
suggested Ilia to check with Taniya or Saravana or SBoyd to see what's
the best thing to do in this context. I don't prefer using OPP
compatible and would go with machine compatibility as you suggested.
But I am fine with OPP, just wanted to make sure it won't clash with
anything else.

IMO the driver should know whether is needs multiple power-domains or 
not and if it needs multiple then it should just call 
dev_pm_domain_attach_by_id() N times without needing to checking 
dev->pm_domain first. If it fails then either the PM domain core did 
something wrong or power-domains are missing from DT, but either way 
there is an error, so let it fail.

In Certain QCOM SoCs like apq8096 and msm8996 that have KRYO processors,
the CPU frequency subset and voltage value of each OPP varies
based on the silicon variant in use. Qualcomm Process Voltage Scaling Tables
defines the voltage and frequency value based on the msm-id in SMEM
and speedbin blown in the efuse combination.
The qcom-cpufreq-kryo driver reads the msm-id and efuse value from the SoC
to provide the OPP framework with required information.
This is used to determine the voltage and frequency value for each OPP of
operating-points-v2 table when it is parsed by the OPP framework.

The qcom-cpufreq-kryo driver reads the msm-id and efuse value from the SoC
to provide the OPP framework with required information.
This is used to determine the voltage and frequency value for each OPP of
operating-points-v2 table when it is parsed by the OPP framework.

This change adds documentation for the DT bindings.
The "operating-points-v2-kryo-cpu" DT extends the "operating-points-v2"
with following parameters:
- nvmem-cells (NVMEM area containig the speedbin information)
- opp-supported-hw: A single 32 bit bitmap value,
  representing compatible HW:
			0:	MSM8996 V3, speedbin 0
			1:	MSM8996 V3, speedbin 1
			2:	MSM8996 V3, speedbin 2
			3:	unused
			4:	MSM8996 SG, speedbin 0
			5:	MSM8996 SG, speedbin 1

In Certain QCOM SoCs like apq8096 and msm8996 that have KRYO processors,
the CPU frequency subset and voltage value of each OPP varies
based on the silicon variant in use. Qualcomm Process Voltage Scaling Tables
defines the voltage and frequency value based on the msm-id in SMEM
and speedbin blown in the efuse combination.
The qcom-cpufreq-kryo driver reads the msm-id and efuse value from the SoC
to provide the OPP framework with required information.
This is used to determine the voltage and frequency value for each OPP of
operating-points-v2 table when it is parsed by the OPP framework.

This change adds documentation for the DT bindings.
The "operating-points-v2-kryo-cpu" DT extends the "operating-points-v2"
with following parameters:
- nvmem-cells (NVMEM area containig the speedbin information)
- opp-supported-hw: A single 32 bit bitmap value,
  representing compatible HW:
			0:	MSM8996 V3, speedbin 0
			1:	MSM8996 V3, speedbin 1

Actually, after reading a recent QoS related bug report, I realised that
a resume latency request of "n/a" is actually a third way of disabling
runtime PM, which similarly to the negative autosuspend would prevent
also a closed port from suspending.

Using a small positive resume latency for this feels like too much of a
hack, but defining a new QoS flag might still work.

timekeeping suspend/resume calls read_persistent_clock() which takes
rtc_lock. That results in might sleep warnings because at that point
we run with interrupts disabled.

We cannot convert rtc_lock to a raw spinlock as that would trigger
other might sleep warnings.

As a workaround we disable the might sleep warnings by setting
system_state to SYSTEM_SUSPEND before calling sysdev_suspend() and
restoring it to SYSTEM_RUNNING afer sysdev_resume(). There is no lock
contention because hibernate / suspend to RAM is single-CPU at this
point.

In s2idle's case the system_state is set to SYSTEM_SUSPEND before
timekeeping_suspend() which is invoked by the last CPU. In the resume
case it set back to SYSTEM_RUNNING after timekeeping_resume() which is
invoked by the first CPU in the resume case. The other CPUs will block
on tick_freeze_lock.

This series adds the throttler driver, for non-thermal throttling of
CPUs and devfreq devices. A use case for non-thermal throttling could
be the detection of a high battery discharge voltage, close to the
over-current protection (OCP) limit of the battery.

To support throttling of devfreq devices the series introduces the
concept of a devfreq policy and the DEVFREQ_ADJUST notifier (similar
to CPUFREQ_ADJUST). Further it includes some related devfreq bugfixes
and improvements that change some of the code that is also touched
by the policy changes.

Commit ab8f58ad72c4 ("PM / devfreq: Set min/max_freq when adding
the devfreq device") introduced the initialization of the user
limits min/max_freq from the lowest/highest available OPPs. Later
commit f1d981eaecf8 ("PM / devfreq: Use the available min/max
frequency") added scaling_min/max_freq, which actually represent
the frequencies of the lowest/highest available OPP. scaling_min/
max_freq are initialized with the values from min/max_freq, which
is totally correct in the context, but a bit awkward to read.

Swap the initialization and assign scaling_min/max_freq with the
OPP freqs and then the user limts min/max_freq with scaling_min/
max_freq.

Needless to say that this change is a NOP, intended to improve
readability.

Commit ab8f58ad72c4 ("PM / devfreq: Set min/max_freq when adding the
devfreq device") initializes df->min/max_freq with the min/max OPP when
the device is added. Later commit f1d981eaecf8 ("PM / devfreq: Use the
available min/max frequency") adds df->scaling_min/max_freq and the
following to the frequency adjustment code:

  max_freq = MIN(devfreq->scaling_max_freq, devfreq->max_freq);

With the current handling of min/max_freq this is incorrect:

Even though df->max_freq is now initialized to a value != 0 user space
can still set it to 0, in this case max_freq would be 0 instead of
df->scaling_max_freq as intended. In consequence the frequency adjustment
is not performed:

  if (max_freq && freq > max_freq) {
	freq = max_freq;

To fix this set df->min/max freq to the min/max OPP in max/max_freq_store,
when the user passes a value of 0. This also prevents df->max_freq from
being set below the min OPP when df->min_freq is 0, and similar for
min_freq. Since it is now guaranteed that df->min/max_freq can't be 0 the
checks for this case can be removed.
