Subject: pppd and syslogd can't work together properly

the problem , pppoe client can't make a suceessful connection to pppoe-server that runs on RHEL5 with syslogd running. now I must kill syslogd to make pppoe-server work right. How to solve this ? BTW, I have this issue on my embeded device running Linux too,the kernel version is 2.6.18.
