This looks like a potentially good, cheap candidate for md use.

Although Linux support is not explicitly mentioned, SiI 3124 is used.

Rocketport has an 8 port PCIe x4 card for $250 street price.

Addonics also makes a 5 port port multiplier (no slots) List $85

(Apparently only works with host Controllers using the SiI3124 and SiI3132)
I wonder what the throughput is?
