I have ordered the following server from Dell:
PowerEdge T610
Tower Chassis for Up to Eight 3.5-Inch Hard Drives
No Operating System
Intel Xeon E5504, 2.0Ghz, 4M Cache, 800MHz Max Mem
6GB Memory (3x2GB), 1333MHz Dual Ranked UDIMMs for 1 Processor, Optimized
Embedded Broadcom® NetXtreme II 5709 Gigabit Ethernet NIC
PERC 6/i SAS RAID Controller, 2x4 Connectors, Internal, PCIe, 256MB Cache
(4) 250GB 7.2K RPM SATA 3.5" Hot Plug Hard Drive
RAID 6 for PERC 6/i Controller
DVD-ROM, SATA, Internal
Electronic System Documentation, OpenManage DVD Kit with DMC
I wish to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 on this using hardware raid-6.
I have four 250 GB drives and four additional hot swap bays for future expansion.
What do I need to do this? Instructions? Drivers? 32 vs 64 bit?
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks
Harold

This is mostly a software RAID list, but this looks straightforward
enough. The specs you listed show that you've specified the RAID-6
setup, so it should arrive pre-configured. If not, you'll need to set
it up via the controller BIOS (should pop up a message at boot time).
The drivers should be included with RHEL5, and with 6GB RAM I'd say
you'd want 64-bit (there's little reason to go for 32-bit over 64-bit
nowadays).
HTH,
Robin
