I was part of the 'boot CPM from floppy' era... > 5MHz and it didn't have a hard drive... ;-) We're probably actually about the same age then; my first computer used cassette tape and had a 2MHz 8-bit processor. I started using PC-compatibles 7 or 8 years later, but didn't buy one myself for another 6 years (that was the one with the 6GB hard drive) by which time I'd contributed patches to the Linux kernel, Postgres and PHP - and that was 12 years ago now...
