Highpoint provide open source drivers (with a binary library) for the 2.4
kernel, but they are not forthcoming with information about an update for
the 2.6 kernel. Is there any direct support for the Highpoint 372A chipset
within the 2.6 kernel series?

Yes. Look for Highpoint in the IDE/ATA menu. There two drivers for
highpoint chips, one for old models and one for newer ones.
