I saw in changelog of 2.6.39

commit 995612178c88407d8330f580ba6572cb8b284dd8
Merge: 8d7718aa082a 6d55da53db3d
Author: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de>
Date: Sat Mar 12 11:37:14 2011 +0100

    Merge branch 'tip/futex/devel' of
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rostedt/linux-2.6-rt into
core/futexes

futex, plist: Pass the real head of the priority list to plist_del()
futex, plist: Remove debug lock assignment from plist_node
     plist: Shrink struct plist_head
     plist: Add priority list test

does it mean that -RT option is now in the kernel core ?

Thanks

not exactly. From what i have seen discussed on this list, Jack-dev
list and through googling ~ 2.6.39 contains one of the main parts of
the RT series. It's called something like
"forced-interruupt-threading" in the kernel config (can't remember the
exact phrase). So RT is almost upstream. but i think there are still
a few patches/parts to migrate over.

2.6.39 is pretty good, i use RT mostly for music/recording
applications - and am using 2.6.39 over 2.6.33-rt . Mind you, I can't
even use .33 anymore, because it is too outdated and isn't very usable
on my main desktop PC.

It does look like RT will be totally mainline soonish, although 2.6.37
is supposed to have an RT kernel. I guess we will see what happens,
but i for one will be happy when it's all upstream, so that i can
always keep my kernel current, while still being able to use all of my
RT-type apps effectively.

hi,

you are unable to succeed, because there is no 2.6.37-rt available.
last i heard the patchset was being worked on, not actually available
- you must use 2.6.33-rt. that is the last stable release of RT.

AFAIK, I am not using 2.6.39 with RT - i am using 2.6.39 which
includes one of the main features that RT provided. I have the
forced-interrupt-threading - enabled in my kernel (using nconfig
before compiling 2.6.39, to customize my kernel how i wanted it).

I am not an RT maintainer, or even contributor. I do not write patches
and am an end-user. (i use RT, specifically for proaudio on the Linux
platform).

I was just answering E-BLOKOS' question, because it seemed as if he
wasn't aware as to why those commits in 2.6.39 would show bits of code
related to and specific to RT.
