Yes, I've tried right up to 2.6.27 with the same failure. I did not try 2.6.14
or 2.6.15 because I don't have a machine on hand with those kernels, but 2.6.13
worked fine.
Based on the behaviour I'm seeing, I'm guessing it's the third thing you
listed, but the limit appears to have changed to something that's unreasonably
small for a tape device.
