Unfortunately, I can't test on the 1068, as the machine is now in production (with SMART disabled!). I do still have access to the 1068E and the 1064, and I will see if I can borrow another 1068. Could you try the attached script on your test system? It carries out I/O to the device which is under test, and seems to trigger failures much more quickly as a result.
