This probably isn't anything to do with the scsi async scan (boot with
scsi_mod.scan=sync to eliminate the possibility). It's probably a driver
failing to finish the scan. Probably the reason for that is broken
interrupt routing. But that's a lot of probables, so some investigation
with scsi_mod.scan=sync should be used to confirm the first hypothesis
before assigning the blame elsewhere.

I've tried to boot adding at the end of the line the option
"scsi_mod.scan=sync", but nothing changed, except some more messages, that I'm
reporting as a screen shot "Kernel 2.6.31 boot scsi_mod.scan=sync.jpg".

Well, the answer is at the top. It says
aic7xxx: 0000:01:03.0: Can't find IRQ for PCI INT A; probably buggy MP
table
So this is an IRQ misrouting to the adaptec card as Matthew suspect.
The likely cause is ACPI.

This bug also applies to kernel 2.6.32.6 (vanilla, patched with grsec) with
exactly same symptoms.
The system is IBM xSeries 220 (also Pentium III Coppermine)
