Subject: decoding dmesg output from aic7xxx
Date: Tue, 05 Oct 2004 08:16:09 -0400	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <41629089.4030902@tht.net> (raw)

Hi,

I have an Adaptec 39160 that has been working for the past 2 years with
a Seagate ST336938LW. I just purchased a Seagate ST336607LW and started
getting lots of messages from this new drive. It appears to be
switching between LVDS and SE mode. The new drive is on channel B of
the card and the older driver is on channel A. In the past I have used
the older drive on channel B with no problems. Also, the new driver is
connected to channel B with a unused cable that came with the card. The
other major difference is I'm running the card in a new mb, Soltek
SL-K8AN2E-GR. Had to go back to SCSI because the sata_nv driver will
not work.

The system usually will become slow to respond after being on for a
couple of hours. Once is starts responding again, the logs are full of
SCSI driver messages. Also, I am now sandwiching the new drive (in a
bag of course) between two cold bags to find out if the problem is
temperature related. This drive is a 10K rpm cheetah and does get hot.
This is my first 10k drive so I'm not sure what is normal temp.
