Can anyone be part of Linux kernel development team.
Basically, if I would be interested. What is the pre-requisite.
I would be interested in SCSI layer/block devices and large Storage Devices like SAN or new development in this area.
The reason for joining the kernel team is gain indepth knowledge
of kernel on the job and at the same time contribute to the development.
Where do I start, please let me know.

Sending patches that are *that* good that several people think they need
your patch in their kernel tree.

Send patches:-)

Find something that works suboptimal and present a patch for a better
implementation.

Start by finding something that doesn't work and fix it ;-)

Is there a defect list and I can start fixing it whenever time.
How does one avoid duplication of work by 2 or more individuals working on
the same problem.
Thanks and Regards
Deepak

Are there any kernel grievances where the users have shown dissatisfaction and
need improvement.
Is there any fresh development or somekind of polling done among users about additional
features one expects in the kernel.
Thanks and Regards
Deepak

Well, there are some problems, but I guess you won't have any chance to
attack them. However, the SCSI subsystem works quite well. (Okay, some
old drivers for ISA based cards need some touch-up)...

A lot is going on, just read the archives!

Short of finding an itch and scratching it, you can always
check the kernel bug list at
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/
(which is same as http://bugme.osdl.org/ FYI).
