* Connection to SAN times out after a few days

I have Nexsan ATAbeast SAN connected to an AMD64 (sun v20z) and
SPARC64 (sun 220R) server using lpfc HBAs (using the in kernel lpfc
driver, kernel 2.6.12-rc4).  About once every 4-5 days, the server
loses its connection to the SAN and I get these messages in my log:

Nothing unusual shows up in the SAN logs.  I've already adjusted the
cache flushing on the SAN and changed the scsi timeouts to 45 seconds.
 I asked emulex about it, but I'm wondering if this is something in
the scsi layer.  Has anyone else had similar problems or know what the
problem may be?

Here's a summary of what we have seen:

After 4-5 days, we start to see i/o timing out to the device. The abort handlers are kicking in, and the device is not responding to the abort requests as well. As the aborts fail, the midlayer is resetting the lun and taking it offline. (Note: ignore the "Rsp ring 0 error" messages, this is a known issue and has no side effect. The patch for this will be arriving shortly).  We have looked at the FC side, and have seen no notification that the device has gone away. The device is simply no longer responding.

We have seen several devices enter similar states under heavy loads. In many cases, raising the default i/o timeout from 30 (very low for busy SAN arrays) to 60 seconds significantly helps the system survive. However, we have seen some arrays that simply drop i/o so it doesn't matter what the timeout is.  What's different in this scenario is that the Abort requests aren't responded to as well.

Does anyone have any experience with the robustness of the "Nexsan ATAbeast" array ?

We are still actively working this issue with Alex, and tracking status on our SourceForge project.
