Hi

I've a problem with APIC on my Gigabyte 586DX SMP-System with two P166MMX and Kernel 2.4.18 and 2.4.19-rc3-ac3. When both CPU's are under load (e.g. compiling the Kernel) I get this message in syslog about every 5 - 10 sec:

APIC error on CPUX: YY(ZZ)

X is 0 or 1
YY is 02 or 08 (sometimes 04 or 0a)
ZZ is always 00

After I searched the archive of this list I found the following hints:

"not overclocking"
Well, the CPU's only run with 150MHz to make sure there are no problems with temperature. Or sould I put it in a refrigerator? ;)

Use Bootparameter "noapic" and/or "nmi_watchdog=0"
I tried it with "noapic" with "nmi_watchdog=0" and with both.
Well, this sounds a little bit strange to me, because even if I say "noapic" the error occurred.

I found a hint there could be a problem with the onboard AIC-7880 SCSI.
The error occur with an installation on a SCSI-Disk with IDE disabled and an installation on an IDE-Disk with SCSI disabled.

Nothing helps.

Please give me a hint how to fix this problem. Thanks

Juergen

P.S. I'm not a member of this list.
