in trying to find out about the alsa drivers i have come up against two
problems...

1) that i have found differing instructions for installation...
(those being different ones through this list and the link to
http://www.levien.com/tp600.html
i have tried a few but they dont seem to work which leads me to the next
point...
2) when i try the alsa drivers and editing the conf.modules (in /etc...i
also tried two or three different configs presented to the list in
replies to my first msg...) i have not been able to get it to recognize
anything. it installs and when i try to load the module it says cant
find it...i tried different variations, the ones suggested in the
replies to this list and some of my own guesses, and the only thing that
reported anything was modprobe snd which gave an error of which i do not
remember and my linux is currently apart =)

any help to this would be appreciated...

incase it helps:
