Hi!
...does not seem to work too well :-(. It connects with the AP
(good!), and survives some "normal" use, but it died at first big
tcpspray (baaaad!).

CONFIG_IWLWIFI_DEBUG is selected). This will dump the firmware event log

the iwlXXXX driver do not work well with the simple rate scale algo.
make sure that its not built into the kernel and not loaded before
iwl3945 is loaded.
You can also try the patches from Johannes which fixes this by letting
the driver choose which one to use as default.

I addded debug=0x43fff to command line, and it produces _incredible_
ammount of syslog noise... and the error goes away, probably due to
changed timing :-(. I can now reliably transfer huge files:

At the moment I'm traveling and not using much wireless but at my
office, I've seen problems similar to what you've seen: under load
the card halts transmitting, then after a one to two second halt, it
picks up again.
I can reproduce the problem at will. I just learned about collecting
debug so once I'm back and settled in, I'll try and reproduce with
debug.
Perhaps the two problems are related ...

I could reproduce it with reduced deubgging... after 2 hours or so,
and I did 2x tcpspray + ping -f.

Can you try using the iwl-3945-rs rate scaling algorithm instead of
rs_simple? (at this moment, try loading iwl-3945-rs before rs_simple, it
will be fixed later). It increases performance a lot. Not sure about
stability though.

actuually iwl3945-rs does more than performance, it will force some
rules that could be causing this assert like transferring rate
restriction on broadcast and management frame, The could new this is
SYSASSERT which we can trace and find what causing it.

BTW... the wireless light does not seem to work on x60. It used to
work with some -mm versions...

iwl3945 and ilw4965 don't support the wireless leds. There is a patch on
this list that enables it but it is not merged yet.
