Linux wireless mini-summit -- Berlin, June 2009

Greetings,

As you may know, we are planning on having a wireless summit meeting
in Berlin, Germany this June.  This meeting is in cooperation with
the Fedora FUDCon event, which will be accomodating us under the
guise of a "hackfest".  This event also overlaps (and co-locates)
with LinuxTag 2009.  Details are available here:

FUDCon's are typically self-organizing under the BarCamp model.
However, I have secured a promise that we will be allocated space
for 1-2 dozen people on at least Friday 26 June and Saturday 27 June
for our wireless event.  I personally encourage everyone not only to
attend LinuxTag but also to participate in the rest of FUDCon!

So, here I open the floor for discussion of agenda items for our
wireless meeting/hackfest.  What do we think is important to discuss
face-to-face this year?  What isn't getting done?  What is getting
done wrong?  What do we need that we didn't realize last year?

Also, please consider making some sort of prepared presentation.
Especially welcome would be topics that are accessible to those
outside of the core wireless developer group, such as current
projects on enhancing IBSS support, extended power savings, or any
other user-visible topic.  I'll be happy to take such proposals in
private email or you can post them as part of this thread.

Hopefully this gets the discussion started...please comment!

those unable or unwilling to travel outside of North America for
whatever reason -- stay tuned.

I could talk about power save and have a small presentation about it.
Only problem is that I'm not yet sure I'm able to come. It will take few
weeks before I know that :(

Hello,

I believe that 802.11n implementation and design in the Linux Wireless =
stack
can be of interest/good to include (also 802.11n Linux future direction=
s ).

Currently packet aggregation is implemented only with the ath9k and iwl=
wifi
mac80211 drivers (there are vendors who have non-native 802.11n
drivers as well).
Packet aggregation details (ampdu and amsdu RX) seems to me to be of in=
terest
(especially considering that there are chances of confirming the 802.11=
n spec at
the end of this year).

Hi,
 There is a lot of interest in Linux Wireless around the world.  I
believe that many who cannot attend (like me), will be happy if videos
and slides of the presentations will be available afterwards. (as was
done in other Fedora FUDCon  conferences in the past).

Since I've just booked my train (will arrive 1:30pm or so on the 25th,
leave Sunday [28th] late afternoon), here are some things I could
possibly talk about:

 * status of moving to nl80211/cfg80211 -- overview over new cfg80211
   operations, maybe with Jouni?
 * power saving if Kalle can't make it
 * aggregation/11n support -- fairly technical but I've just rewritten
   things :)
 * maybe some regulatory stuff but Luis really is the expert, unless by
   then I've rewritten it according to my plan ;)

It is worth it. You don't have much town in the western 
hemisphere that used have been devided into "social 
capitalimism" vs. "jail-like socialism". Part of "The wall" do 
exist today, or the Checkpoint Charlie.

Look for "Attractions" and "Museums" on

And if you don't mind driving some kilometers, I'd also recommend 
Castle Sanssouci in Potsdam,

What about proper roaming support? I think it will be the thing we are
lacking after power save is finished. There was talk about having GSoC
project, what happened to it?

I'm interested about roaming, but I don't how much time if any I can
find for implementing it. But I could make a summary of all
discussions we have had here during the last year and maybe try to
start some discussion at the summit. What others think?

Can we book a room on Holiday in
(http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon:Berlin_2009_lodging) or is it
only for Fedora people ? What's the process ? I've managed to find
some funding for travel expenses but most hotels are really expensive
(i plan to come on 24 and leave on 29).

AFAIK you are welcome to do so -- note that they are supposed to be
booking the rooms _today_, so move quickly!

Hello,
  Facing the upcoming summit, I want to say here that it would be a
great idea if some of the  wireless
summit lectures (or all) will be videoed and put on the web
afterwards. I think this can be a great idea
for the benefit of the Linux wireless community.
