That is up to the particular distro.

Sorry to say, but nope. The physical RFKILL switches are pretty obscure.
They intend to disable all RF sources in the laptop. The RFKILL
subsystem within linux handles the physical switches and notifies all
wireless devices when it changes and the driver disables/enables its RF.

You could try 'rfkill event' and look what happens when you touch the
'button'. This is what I get with a switch on my laptop:

$ rfkill event
1325775232.353767: idx 0 type 1 op 0 soft 0 hard 0
1325775232.353907: idx 1 type 2 op 0 soft 0 hard 0
>> disable RF
1325775239.701387: idx 0 type 1 op 2 soft 1 hard 1
>> enable RF
1325775242.701371: idx 0 type 1 op 2 soft 0 hard 0
