* ath9k AR9287 status?
From: Bruno Randolf @ 2013-09-30 8:00 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: linux-wireless, nbd, sujith, linux; +Cc: Ingo Randolf
Hello!
What is the status of AR9287 support in ath9k?
I have a AR9287 PCI-Express card which is behaving more than weird with
kernel 3.2 and with the current (3.10.4-1) backports drivers: It can't
connect to APs (many reconnects), with hostap it _seems_ to work as an
AP, but no beacons are seen and no stations can connect, similar in
ad-hoc mode, and when bringing the interface down the whole system
freezes...
I've seen some related bugs in the bugtracker, but I wonder what the
experiences with this chipset are in general?
Or - can anyone recommend a good half size PCI-Express card that works
well with ath9k?
Thanks,
bruno

I haven't seen this pull request, so it looks like there is nothing for
me to apply at the moment.

See:

It seems that starting with the mentioned commit, b43 doesn't report
any results on the 1st scanning. No idea how this patch affected b43.
Scanning on channel b43 is failing even worse starting with that
commit.

* [PATCH 3.12 2/2] mac80211: update sta->last_rx on acked tx frames
From: Felix Fietkau @ 2013-09-29 19:39 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: linux-wireless; +Cc: johannes
In-Reply-To: <1380483574-88667-1-git-send-email-nbd@openwrt.org>
When clients are idle for too long, hostapd sends nullfunc frames for
probing. When those are acked by the client, the idle time needs to be
updated.
To make this work (and to avoid unnecessary probing), update sta->last_rx
whenever an ACK was received for a tx packet. Only do this if the flag
IEEE80211_HW_REPORTS_TX_ACK_STATUS is set.

Yes and the problem is most likely to be in the driver because it doesn't
occur before commit 0172bb75073e11a5aa9d8a953bdaefb8709f00c8 ("cfg80211: use

* [PATCH 3.12] mac80211: fix a tx power handling regression
From: Felix Fietkau @ 2013-09-29 12:48 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: linux-wireless; +Cc: johannes
commit 1ea6f9c0d48b11b6ec3ec4b5579ec74fc3951cf8
"mac80211: handle TX power per virtual interface"
This commit added support for tracking tx power configuration for
multiple interfaces, however instead of using the maximum value of all
virtual interfaces, it uses the minimum.
This causes the configured tx power to be reset to the absolute minimum
for all virtual interfaces, whenever an interface is created and destroyed
immediately afterwards.

* [PATCH 3.12] ath9k: fix powersave response handling for BA session packets
From: Felix Fietkau @ 2013-09-29 11:06 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: linux-wireless; +Cc: linville
When a packet is passed from mac80211 to the driver with the
IEEE80211_TX_CTL_PS_RESPONSE flag set, it bypasses the normal driver
internal queueing and goes directly to the UAPSD queue.
When that happens, packets that are part of a BlockAck session still
need to be tracked as such inside the driver, otherwise it will create
discrepancies in the receiver BA reorder window, causing traffic stalls.
This only happens in AP mode with powersave-enabled clients.
This patch fixes the regression introduced in the commit
"ath9k: use software queues for un-aggregated data packets"

That might be a dumb remark, but you noticed that the interface name in
the code doesn't actually match the name of the interface mwifiex
creates by default? We changed that to "wlan0" in our system to bring it
in line with other platforms.
I changed the test tool in the gist so it requires you to pass the name
as first argument.

Yes, because it was get twice.

udev and ar->udev are equal, so technically the patch is correct.
I agree that there is some inconsistency, but I would prefer to fix it
at usb_get_dev() side with a comment about reasons for the double get.

You are doing the same free twice.
I guess you meant to also free: usb_put_dev(ar->udev)

carl9170_usb_probe() does not handle request_firmware_nowait() failure
that leads to several leaks in this case.
The patch adds all required deallocations.
Found by Linux Driver Verification project (linuxtesting.org).

Actually, just out of pure curiosity, I would be interested whether the
issue is also as easily reproducible on other platform like Chromebooks.
Could anyone give that a try maybe?

[-- Attachment #1: Type: text/plain, Size: 34284 bytes --]
Dave,
Please pull this batch of fixes intended for the 3.12 stream!
Regarding the Bluetooth bits, Gustavo says:
"First Bluetooth fixes to 3.12, it includes:
* 3 patches to add device id for 3 new hardwares.
* 2 patches from Johan to fix the rfkill behaviour during setup stage
* a small clean up in the rfcomm TTY code that fixes a potential racy
condition (by Gianluca Anzolin)
* 2 fixes to proper set encryption key size and security level in the
peripheral role of Bluetooth LE devices. (by Andre Guedes)
* a fix for dealing devices where pairing is not necessary, we were keeping
the Bluetooth ACL connection alive for too much time. (by Syam Sidhardhan)"
Also, I fixed-up an curly-brace indentation problem in the Bluetooth
code while merging. On top of that...
Alexey Khoroshilov brings a p54usb fix to avoid a resource leak when
request_firmware_nowait fails.
Amitkumar Karwar fixes a firmware hang caused by too much header data
being appended for USB devices using the mwifiex driver.
Arend van Spriel provides three fixes: a brcmfmac fix to relocate some
driver code outside of an .init section; a scheduling while atomic
fix for bcma; and, another scheduling while atomic fix for brcmsmac.
Bing Zhao offers a pair of mwifiex fixes: a code change to avoid
firmware timeouts on USB; and a fix for a NULL pointer dereference.
Christian Lamparter adds a device ID to p54usb.
Felix Fietkau implements a quartet of small ath9k fixes, including
a locking fix, a list management fix, a fix to properly mark a stale
buffer, and an aggregate buffering fix.
Larry Finger champions a data alignment fix to make rtlwifi work
better with ARM builds.
Solomon Peachy reverts an earlier interrupt handling fix for cw1200
and replaces it with a new threaded oneshot irq handler implementation.
Sujith Manoharan fixes an ath9k regression by reverting an earlier
patch.
Please let me know if there are problems!
John

* [PATCH 3.12] mwifiex: fix SDIO interrupt lost issue
From: Bing Zhao @ 2013-09-27 17:55 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: linux-wireless
Cc: John W. Linville, Sven Neumann, Andreas Fenkart, Daniel Mack,
Dylan Reid, Paul Stewart, Amitkumar Karwar, Bing Zhao
From: Amitkumar Karwar <akarwar@marvell.com>
601216e "mwifiex: process RX packets in SDIO IRQ thread directly"
introduced a command timeout issue which can be reproduced easily on
an AM33xx platform using a test application written by Daniel Mack:
https://gist.github.com/zonque/6579314
mwifiex_main_process() is called from both the SDIO handler and
the workqueue. In case an interrupt occurs right after the
int_status check, but before updating the mwifiex_processing flag,
this interrupt gets lost, resulting in a command timeout and
consequently a card reset.
Let main_proc_lock protect both int_status and mwifiex_processing
flag. This fixes the interrupt lost issue.

* [PATCH v3 3/3] ath10k: implement firmware IE container support
From: Kalle Valo @ 2013-09-27 16:55 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: ath10k; +Cc: linux-wireless
In-Reply-To: <20130927164636.2570.24076.stgit@localhost6.localdomain6>
Firmware IE containers can dynamically provide various information what
firmware supports. Also it can embed more than one image so updating firmware
is easy, user just needs to update one file in /lib/firmware/.
The firmware API 2 or higher will use the IE container format, the current API
1 will not use the new format but it still is supported for some time. FW API 2
files are named as firmware-2.bin (which contains both firmware and otp images)
and API 1 files are firmware.bin and otp.bin.
