Yes, the address will be translated in that case.

I am not sure why that would be easier. Also, my hunch is that it makes
sense to translate the address in particular with encrypted association
frames.

hostapd receives the link ID that the frame was received on. So when
the address was translated (no NO_STA flag), hostapd can use the MLD
Address + Link ID to do a lookup in its own station database and use
that to look up the SA address that was used to TX the frame. So you
should be able to emulate the suggested mac80211 behaviour inside
hostapd.

Note that when a STA that first used L1 (M1) reappears using L1 (M2),
then hostapd cannot create a STA entry in mac80211. So the existing M1
address should be used to TX the SA Query to the old station, while an
explicit TX to L1 with the NO_STA flag needs to be done for the
comeback frame.

I believe that hostapd will need a bit of refactoring, including
improved tracking to know whether a STA has been inserted into the
driver and whether to TX the AUTH frames using the link address and
NO_STA flag or using the MLD Address.

Right, I would like to avoid introducing a new capability mechanism
unless it is a real improvement for the hostapd implementation. It
could well be that I am missing something, but right now I do not see
that this is the case.

If you are still unsure, then I guess we should probably go back to the
list of scenarios we had and check for each one how it can be detected
and how it should be handled.

You have right, please drop the patch.

BTW, the code should be changed to move getting the address from OF
out of _set routine.

Are you sure? I just randomly checked one caller to see what the
*eeprom_mac_addr would contain, and I see

        mac = rt2x00_eeprom_addr(rt2x00dev, EEPROM_MAC_ADDR_0);
        rt2x00lib_set_mac_address(rt2x00dev, mac);

so that case assumes it can get it from EEPROM and override with OF, but
if OF fails then it would still use the EEPROM address as long as it's
valid ...

The 'unassociated' part here seems rather misleading - it's basically
when it's called before mac80211 configures the channel?

Maybe zd_rf_init() should set the channel to 1 or whatever the default
channel of the device is? I'm surprised it even receives anything before
being properly configured. But I also see no way to ever go to an
invalid channel number again after the initial configuration of a
channel.

Never mind that the reporting is also racy, but I guess it doesn't
really matter too much ... I had a couple of these devices but they all
broke.

I don't mind applying this patch either, but please edit the commit
message to not mislead about association. If I'm reading it correctly
then all that matters is that it receives before a channel config, and
that only happens as a race during init.

* [PATCH ath-next] wifi: ath12k: initialize RSSI dBm conversion event state
From: Rameshkumar Sundaram @ 2026-04-27 10:30 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: ath12k; +Cc: linux-wireless, Rameshkumar Sundaram

Currently, the RSSI dBm conversion event handler leaves struct
ath12k_wmi_rssi_dbm_conv_info_arg uninitialized on the stack before
calling the TLV parser. If one of the optional sub-TLVs is absent, the
corresponding *_present flag retains stack garbage and later gets read
in ath12k_wmi_update_rssi_offsets(). With UBSAN enabled this triggers an
invalid-load report for _Bool:

UBSAN: invalid-load in drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath12k/wmi.c:9682:15
load of value 9 is not a valid value for type '_Bool'
Call Trace:
 ath12k_wmi_rssi_dbm_conversion_params_info_event.cold+0x72/0x85 [ath12k]
 ath12k_wmi_op_rx+0x1871/0x2ab0 [ath12k]
 ath12k_htc_rx_completion_handler+0x44b/0x810 [ath12k]
 ath12k_ce_recv_process_cb+0x554/0x9f0 [ath12k]
 ath12k_ce_per_engine_service+0xbe/0xf0 [ath12k]
 ath12k_pci_ce_workqueue+0x69/0x120 [ath12k]

Initialize the parsed event state to zero before passing it to the TLV
parser so missing sub-TLVs correctly leave the presence flags false.

Hi all,

A quick erratum to my previous email:

I mistakenly wrote that the corrupted descriptor happened to have a
`drv_info_sz` of 24. It actually matched 4 (`PHY_STATUS_SIZE`). Since
`drv_info_sz` is in 8-byte units, this translates to 32 bytes.

The core conclusion remains exactly the same: the hardware randomly
generated a `drv_info_sz` of 4 (or 0) by pure coincidence. This
perfectly bypassed the `pkt_stat->drv_info_sz != PHY_STATUS_SIZE`
check, proving once again that length validation alone isn't
completely bulletproof and Panagiotis's NULL check is still required
as a safety net.

Sorry for the typo!

Best regards,
Oleksandr Havrylov

cases. During testing, we observed some complexities in specific
scenarios particularly when a Non‑AP STA first associates as L1 (M1)
and then reappears as L1 (M2) during the authentication/association phase.
In this case, on the RX path, when an authentication frame for L1 (M2 in
the ML IE) is received, the driver finds the existing STA L1 (M1) and
therefore does not add the NO_STA attribute.

As a result, the complexity of handling authentication and association
frames increases within the user‑space hostapd application. While
processing the authentication frame, hostapd parses the ML IE
but fails to create a new STA entry for L1 (M2) in the driver,
especially in scenarios involving different MLD addresses.

To simplify this handling, we would like to explore an alternative
approach that avoids address translation for management frames
(authentication, association, and reassociation),
regardless of whether the STA already exists.

However, this approach may introduce backward compatibility concerns
when either the driver or hostapd is not updated.
To address this, we propose introducing a capability indication
mechanism between the driver and user space (driver ↔ hostapd).
Based on the advertised capabilities, mac80211 can then skip
management‑frame address translation accordingly.

Benjamin and Jouni, Could you please help share your thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Ramasamy

Pretty sure this will break drivers, particularly iwlwifi, if you don't
fix those first.

What was wrong with the approach we discussed there, other than nobody
implementing it?

Now since all the Qcom SCM client drivers have been migrated over to
generic PAS TZ service, let's drop the exported SCM PAS wrappers.

Switch ath12k client driver over to generic PAS TZ APIs. Generic PAS TZ
service allows to support multiple TZ implementation backends like QTEE
based SCM PAS service, OP-TEE based PAS service and any further future TZ
backend service.

Switch qcom media client drivers over to generic PAS TZ APIs. Generic PAS
TZ service allows to support multiple TZ implementation backends like QTEE
based SCM PAS service, OP-TEE based PAS service and any further future TZ

Along with that pass proper PAS ID to set_remote_state API. As per testing
the SCM backend just ignores it while OP-TEE makes use of it to for proper
book keeping purpose.

In-Reply-To: <20260427095603.1157963-1-sumit.garg@kernel.org>

From: Sumit Garg <sumit.garg@oss.qualcomm.com>

Add support for Peripheral Authentication Service (PAS) driver based
on TEE bus with OP-TEE providing the backend PAS service implementation.

The TEE PAS service ABI is designed to be extensible with additional API
as PTA_QCOM_PAS_CAPABILITIES. This allows to accommodate any future
extensions of the PAS service needed while still maintaining backwards
compatibility.

In-Reply-To: <20260427095603.1157963-1-sumit.garg@kernel.org>

From: Sumit Garg <sumit.garg@oss.qualcomm.com>

With the availability of generic PAS service, let's add SCM calls as
a backend to keep supporting legacy QTEE interfaces. The exported
qcom_scm* wrappers will get dropped once all the client drivers get
migrated as part of future patches.

- * Qualcomm remote processor may rely on both static and dynamic resources for
- * its functionality. Static resources typically refer to memory-mapped addresses
- * required by the subsystem and are often embedded within the firmware binary
- * and dynamic resources, such as shared memory in DDR etc., are determined at
- * runtime during the boot process.
- *
- * On Qualcomm Technologies devices, it's possible that static resources are not
- * embedded in the firmware binary and instead are provided by TrustZone However,
- * dynamic resources are always expected to come from TrustZone. This indicates
- * that for Qualcomm devices, all resources (static and dynamic) will be provided
- * by TrustZone via the SMC call.
- *
- * If the remote processor firmware binary does contain static resources, they
- * should be passed in input_rt. These will be forwarded to TrustZone for
- * authentication. TrustZone will then append the dynamic resources and return
- * the complete resource table in output_rt_tzm.
- *
- * If the remote processor firmware binary does not include a resource table,
- * the caller of this function should set input_rt as NULL and input_rt_size
- * as zero respectively.
