This series has the steps to remove ELFv1 from the kernel build.
Patch 1 is a build fix, 2 defaults everything to ELFv2, 3 is
really a separate issue that concerns userspace. 4 removes v1
support.
Would like to try getting patch 1 in as a fix, then 2,3 merged in
the next merge window.

The LLD version check was added to be conservative, but previous LLD versions would simply fail to link ELFv1 entirely. The only would be to require LLD >= 15 for BE builds, but let's instead remove that restriction until proven otherwise (LLD 14.0 links a booting ELFv2 BE vmlinux for me). The minimum binutils has increased such that ELFv2 is always supported, so remove that check while we're here. I ran it through my (admittedly limited set of) build tests with LD=ld.lld for big endian configurations and I saw no build errors with LLVM 11.1.0 through 16.0.3 (and currently, a 17.0.0 built from main); my simple QEMU boot testing passed as well. Yes it can and that's what ELFv2 BE kernels do because most BE userspace is ELFv1 (although some are using ELFv2 BE). By ELFv2 fallout I mean bugs and toolchain problems that might get discovered after we flip the default. I think it would be good to keep the ELFv1 option around for a few releases to help testing such issues, the revert will probably pick up conflicts. Maybe that's being too paranoid. AIUI they would like us to switch to -fpatchable-function-entry which could then be supported on GCC & clang.
