hi.

i'm trying to compile a 2.2.5 kernel for my iMac running LinuxPPC pre-R5.
I did the following :

applied kbd-final-2.2.0 and uusbd-199901xxxx to linux-2.2.0
then patched up to 2.2.5 and eventually make vmlinux

Everything compiled fine but when I try to boot it (by putting vmlinux in
the same directory as bootx) it sits there at after it detects the ide
devices.

I guess I'm missing a patch or two :) can anyone help me out?

thanks

vmlinux needs to go in the System Folder to be seen by BootX.

that doesn't appear to be the case.. for kicks i moved the vmlinux out of
my system folder and just had another in my bootx folder and it starts up
fine.

thanks anyway ;)

after pulling some stuff from the linux-pmac source tree, I think I have
2.2.5 almost working :) its compiled.. and time to test..

It doesn't; check the Readme for the latest BootX. Obviously, BootX found
enough of the kernel to boot from it...

My problem wasn't bootx related, the problem was related to the ide
drivers in the linux source tree, I pulled the ide driver source from the
linux-pmac source tree and patched up to 2.2.5 and it works fine.

check: http://w3.one.net/~johnb/imaclinux/

under the kernel howto.
