Steffen Haeuser reported the following XFree86 4.0 bugs in linuxppc
in case anyone is interested in looking into these problems...

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi!

Despite the fact I cannot use LinuxPPC for release-version games currently I
am
keeping the LinuxPPC version (which is basically just a different makefile
than
the Linux-x86 version :) ) of the game I am currently working on on the latest
state.
On this I encountered some bugs in the V4 X Server. I guess you are interested
in
bugreports ? :)

1. VidModeExtension

If I have a 640x480 and a 1024x768 mode defined in XF86Config, after the call
of

XF86VidModeGetAllModeLines

I get those reported as

640x481
1024x769

If I just ignore this and switch to the mode anyways, I get a display which is
completely
garbaged, as if a wrong BytesPerRow is used. This only happens in 640x480
though,
in 1024x768 this works fine.

Next is: When I do a XGetVisualInfo for a different depth like the current
screen
this fails (as I understand it it should not fail, and if a image with the
different
depth is then created, the XShmPutImage should convert for the X Server V
4.0).

Asides from that I did not find any bugs - yet :)

Of course these issues are minor issues for myselves... the big issue is the
3D
Acceleration for me :) ...

Steffen

I think this is a known bug...

Don't bother, that's a known problem as well. Blame Apple for not releasing
specs for the latest sound chips...

which machine, which kernel (and, if possible, which sound chip - can be
found from the MacOS side if not the Linux) ?

I'm trying to build a pattern to help track down the different issues & fix
'em... there *is* work going on on the new chips - and the Darwin stuff is
helpful (i.e. I am hopeful of getting a more wide-ranging pmac sound support
over the next month or so)...

Iain.

The latter. Don't know about the other one. At least no other X developer has
replied on the Xpert list...

You can always stay up-to-date using XFree86's public CVS or better with Ani
Joshi's rsync archive.

For the RPMs, ask Jack Howarth...

To my knowledge, there have been no change to the sound driver in 2.2 lately

Which bootloader are you using ?

Ben.

A "blue/white" G3 Mac first Revision. Kernel is: 2.2.17pre10-ben2 (with the
older
kernel Sound worked - at least I cannot remember that an error message during
OS-booting happened, I never tried out the sound then.
But the new Kernel is needed for the X Server V4)

Sounds nice :)

Ah. Which one, BTW, the "vertical one to high" or the "displayed screwed up"
one ?
Or both ?

Hmmm... maybe it did not work before either... but I first noticed the
"Failed"
after the installation of the new Kernel...

>Which bootloader are you using ?

I boot up using the system extension...
